Show DAVIS-REFLEX-JO- RN AL, NOVEMBER 24, 1987 U Go look in The Basement5 LAYTON Its a Miracle of North Fort Lane Street, Doug Beatty, one of the three owners of The Basement, says of his new store. Located in an unused four-bagarage that has undergone extensive remodeling, The Basement is in a nice but niche s across the street from Tom and behind the Red Hanger Cleaners. Its white exterior brightens a spot in Layton that has looked very dismal for many years. The owners of this new business are Gordon Peterson, Ron Stoof and Doug Beatty. All are community-minded Layton and Kaysville people who have had extensive business experience locally. The Basement is one of those stores that is fun to visit. It is easy to browse up and down the aisles picking up an article here and a small gift there. Most purchases are things that you probably didnt think you needed but the reasonable price and the quality of the g merchandise tell you it is you must have. The Basement isnt a store that can be classified. It carries a good line of gifts, health and beauty aids, wicker baskets and food items similar to those found in most drug stores. Because of the season, there is a special assortment of Christmas items on sale. Depending on the day you visit The Basement, you will find other special bargains like expensive mens dress shirts reasonably priced, watches, baby items, glassware or dinnerware. Mr. Beatty says the criteria for what will be sold in this store is simple. The price must be right and the product must be high quality. Fresh, new merchandise is brought in on a daily basis. This gives a dynamic flavor to the business and attracts repeat customers. The philosophy behind this business is that the customer is looking for bargains.
