C Tradition was carried out once again on Sunday at SUSC President Gerald R. Sherratt's home. New students and their parents gathered at Sherratt's home to meet SUSC's faculty and staff. ASSUSC officers were on hand to meet students and answer questions. Th annual freshman reception is sponsored by the hostess corps which is made up of women on the SUSC faculty and staff. The basis of the reception is to help students make the transition from home to college in a relaxed, informal way, said Bessie Dover, SUSC career The reception is beneficial for faculty, freshmen and parents. Dover said it is a good ice breaker because the students get a feel of the college spirit. Parents have the opportunity to become familiar with the people to contact for information regarding their student. Dover thinks it is important for the students to know they can be recognized as an individual and not a number. The reception was not just a social event, but a way to make connections with people; connections that will be helpful in students' future decision making. Trip planned to Colorado Visits to Mesa Verde National Park and Colorado's fabled mining district, the "San Juan Triangle," are planned as part of an Oct. 8 through 1 1 field trip to be conducted by the SUSC department of geology. Also on the agenda is a d g tour via a train which winds its way up the Animas River valley on a railway built in the late 1870s. Participants will have an opportunity to study the geology of the Colorado Plateau, wander among the Anasazi ruins, and enjoy the historic mining towns of Colorado. Trip registration, $115, includes transportation, food and the train ride. One Geology credit is available, if desired. steam-powere- sight-seein- rzzzzzjiziiz.! i m COIN-O- P LAUNDRY ; 1117 NORTH MAIN ; I CEDAR CITY, UTAH ! 586-140- 5 Instead of spending your money on monthly checking account fees; spend it on pizza.
