For information, call or contact: SUSC Resident Living Juniper Hall 586-79S- 6 Constitution to be discussed in forum The history and political science departments at Southern Utah State and Dixie College will commemorate the bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution with an open forum to deal with current constitutional issues. The joint presentations will begin April 7 in the SUSC Centrum, room 227, and continue April 9 in St. George in the Dixie Center Coral Recital Hall. Presentations will continue on a weekly basis through May 4 and 6, scheduled each evening from 7 to 9 p.m. in the respective meeting halls. According to Wayne K. Hinton, the project coordinator and chairman of the SUSC department of behavioral and social science, the forum is designed to introduce, analyze and discuss some of the important consititutional issues facing the U.S. in the 1980s. The weekly programs, he said, will include the use of the nationally renowned video-tap- e Ed BY series, "The Constitution: That Delicate Balance," plus a panel discussion and an opportunity for the audience to interact and ask questions. Each week a new topic will be introduced and reviewed by a different panel of experts. Academic professionals and civic and political leaders from throughout southern Utah will serve as panel members and moderators. The cooperative forums are open and free to the public and may be taken for one hour of college credit by contacting the respective college divisions of continuing education. "It is our hope to make people aware this bicentennial year of the significance of the U.S. Constitution and its relationship to us today," Hinton said. "We also look forward to the open forum as a means of cooperation and sharing of ideas between the two institutions." club designed for future teachers WADE GERBER The club meets the second Wednesday of in the Old Administration building room 203. Guests are welcome to join, according to President Julie Hutchings. Hutchings is joined in the leadership of the club by Bill Davis, vice president; Dawn Waterhouse, secretary; and Milissa Walker, treasurer. Hutchings is also the state vice president for the Utah Student Education Association. Club members can join one of three committees in the club and they are also eligible to join the National Education Association and the Utah Education Association. "I started it this year, but couldn't have done it without my officers and two advisors. It was their efforts that made (the club) this far, and want them to know appreciate it," said Hutchings. each month at noon Designed to help future teachers, SUSC's educational club is for majors in secondary and elementary education. The club's primary goal is to help students become better educators. The organization's other objectives are to get education students acquainted with the scholarships offered through their department and to recruit more students. The club also lobbied against budget cuts, and helped with the ALERT program to increase awareness. They are also involved in the International Reading Association and would like to see more people become involved with that. The club also sponsors one workshop every month. Education specialists will conduct the workshops. The 1987 Valedictorian will be introduced to the audience, and the winners of a number of departmental awards will be announced at that time.
