Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. at 7:30 p.m., this match will mark the biggest sporting event to take place in Cedar City, according to Rich Wilson, diiector of the Utah Summer Games. The Centrum match will be the second of a western tour of ihe two teams. It will also be the culmination event of the state women's volleyball tournament to be held in Cedar City the same weekend. After taking the silver medal in the 1984 Olympics, the U.S. team has been completely rebuilt. Under new head coach Taras "Terry" Liskevych, the team has competed in several world tournaments, the mo-- l iec ni being the Samaranch Cup in Switzerland. Liskevych was disappoints a in the team's 10th place finish at the World Championships in Czechoslovakia this past spring, but noted that his team has beaten many of the higher-rankin- g teams since that tournament. The Japanese team took the bronze medal in the '84 over Olympics, and have maintained an incredible world-rankin- g the years, ranking first, second, or third since 1964. Liskevych said that the Japanese team has always been tough on the American teams. They have been somewhat of a stumbling block to the Americans," said Liskevych. We need to establish in our minds that we can play with and defeat them regularly." The U.S. team will be in town Friday, Oct. 31 until Sunday, Nov. 2. Their schedule includes a practice session open to the public on Saturday morning from 10 until noon at the Centrum. Wilson believes that the future uf other possib'e Olymp't events revolves around this one. It's important that we have a major turnout," said Wilson. If we don't support this event, we wont have the chance of seeing any other Olympic teams in Ced " Tickets tor the match are available at the r mrum tala "J ice 2 from daily.
