Show PAGE 14 THE THUNDFRBtftD OCTOBER MONDAY 13, 1986 Jazz squeak by Sonics BY GREG MILES Two clutch free throws by John Stockton gave the Utah Jazz a win over the Seattle Supersonics before a capacity crowd at SUSC's Centrum Friday night. Despite the jungle ball, there were several outstanding individual performances. Utah's Thurl "Big-T- " Bailey scored a shot. He also game high 25 points, including one three-poihad eight rebounds and four blocked shots. Stockton added 21 points, hitting six of seven from the floor, and nine of 10 at the charity stripe. For Seattle, guard Danny Young scored 21 points, and former Ute Tom Chambers put in 19. Utah's recent acquisition, Kelly Tripucka, didn't dress for the game. He was sidelined with a pulled hamstring, as was Jazz guaid Rickey Green. Several NBA hopefuls made appeaiances in the game, including Ray Hall and Eddie Hughes for Utah, and Nate McMillan for Seattle. Following the game. Head Coach Frank Layden said that although he's happy the way his team looks overall, they needed to do some settling clown. "We've got some very good athletes," Layden said. "Now it's a matter of holding them back a little 95-9- 4 4. fast-pace- barn-burn- er bit." Layden feeds that the team should faie well in its division this season. "We're in a very tough division," Layden said, "but we're going to do all right." After two more weeks of exhibition games, the Jazz will open their regular season Halloween night, taking on the Dallas Mavericks in Dallas.
