One of my biggest challenges is training the new officers: We have at least a 90 percent turnover each year. Alan is aware of policy and the direction were taking, hes miles head, says Brad Bennett, SUSCs director of student activities. Alan Bailey was elected ASSUSC President Wednesday, March 5. Bailey previously served as administrative vice president for the ASSUSC. He will be officially sworn in as SUSCs chief executive at an inauguration ceremony hosted by outgoing student government members on March 15. Winning was totally awesome, said Bailey. I that it is quite an honor to serve in this position and I hope I can do a good job. Im committed and Im willing to put forth the effort. The students have my pledge that Ill do my best. Former ASSUSC President Stuart Jones will be a hard person to replace, said Bailey. I've learned a lot from Stuart this past year. Hes done an excellent job. He has brought us all together and he has put in a lot of good time and effort into making student government a better organization. He has a lot of good people in his administration, he said. Bailey said that serving as administrative vice president has been a tremendous factor in helping him to fulfill his new position as student body president. Ive had a great experience working in student government this year and plan to continue the tradition during my term as student body president, said Bailey. "I know what has been happening this year and I know what needs to be done. I understand some feel 1 of the problems that weve had in the past and Id like to work on resolving them. Since SUSC has been good to me during the past three years, I want to return the favor, said Bailey. If we work together with the other students, than hopefully we can make SUSC a better place to go to school. Bailey said it will be to his advantage to have the opportunity to work with such a diversified group of people such as the Star party, which grabbed all of the positions in last Wednedays election. We were pulling for each other and were fortunate enough that we all made it and can be together. These people are great people. Working with them will make things a lot easier for me, he said. Baily stressed uniformity and congruency as the major tools within the new council and when speaking of his plans and future goals he repeatedly used the words We and Us never once speaking in first person. Baily said he has always thought of the group as a whole and never thought of himself only. Were diversified, yet unified, he said. "Weve put together a quality group and we were proud to run with one another. Weve all come from different backgrounds and now that weve been elected together a certain cohesiveness has developed among us. Bailey says he doesnt think SUSC has any major problems, but there are a few minor problems that he would like to tackle such as the the recent two percent budget cut from the Utah State Legislature.
