Show The Thunderbitd Monday October 14, 1985 Page 9 Nelson to be honored A tribute dinner in honor of Pauline Hafen Nelson will be held Wednesday at SUSC. Nelson retired recently as the assistant provost for academic support and as the coordinator of federal programs at the college. The SUSC administrator joined the faculty in 1969 as an instructor of business. The banquet will start at 7 p.m. in the Student Center Small Ballroom. Mrs. Nelson has worked in many capacities and in many ways to make SUSC a fine academic institution, from the countless hours she spent writing grant proposals to the wholehearted effort she put into SUSCs most successful Jewish Week celebration, said SUSC President Gerald R. Sherratt. We extend an invitation to all those who know and appreciate this fine woman to join us for the tribute dinner. 586-793- Program director hired Kurt L. Lewandowski has been appointed acting director of Upward BoundSpecial Services at SUSC. Lewandowski is filling in for program director Peter Emerson who is attending Idaho State University to work on a doctoral degree. The acting directors responsibilities are to overlook budgets for Project Alta, which includes Special Services and Upward Bound, and to prepare grants needed for the continuation of these programs. He and other Project Alta personnel will attend an Association of Special Programs in Region Eight (ASPIRE) Conference Oct. 22 through 25 in Rapid City, S.D. ASPIRE includes participants from Utah, Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, and North and South Dakota. Lewandowski graduated from Community College, Albany, Ore., in 1982 and from SUSC in 1984 with a bachelors degree in mathematics. He has completed 40 graduate credit hours at Oregon State University, also in mathematics. The Salem, Ore., native has three years experience working with Upward Bound and a year with Project Alta. He was named an outstanding tutor counselor while working with Upward Bound and received a teaching assistantship to OSU. Linn-Bento- LOOKING FOR A BARGAIN? n ljV SECOND HAND EMPORIUM Mills attends conference James Mills, a SUSC faculty member, will attend meetings of the Rocky Mountain Modern Languages Association as a presenter in a section on comparative literature this week. Mills will read a paper dealing with his continuing research into the life and works of the 18th century French poet Andre Chenier. His paper is titled Archilochus and Andre Chenier: 490 SOUTH MAIN STREET 8 CEDAR CITY, UTAH SATURDAY THRU MONDAY HOURS: 10:00 AM 5:00 PM 586-076- Biographic Parallelism and Iambic Convergence. The RMMLA conference will be held at Brigham Young University. Mills, an associate professor of French, conducted a student trip to Paris this summer where he had an opportunity to visit several historical sites associated with the French poet. Archilochus, he said, was a Greek poet who lived during the 7th century B.C., and who is credited with originating iambic rhythm.
