Cedar City, 6 Seale, Pringle to debate The international concern over apartheid will be the topic of debate between former Black Panther leader Bobby Seale and South African activist Stuart Pringle as they discuss racial equality vs. South African economic stability at an SUSC Convocation Thursday. Since last spring, when SUSC students marched on campus to raise local consciousness about the situation blacks face in South Africa, the issue of apartheid has continued to gain local attention on the campus and through the community paper. Recently, letters to the editor published locally in the community papers have expressed pro or con viewpoints toward the issues facing South Africa. Pringle and Seale will present their personal views based on those same subjects. Seale, known in the 1960s as one of the original in the Chicago Eight trial, is one of the most outspoken opponents of South African apartheid. He is deeply involved in the struggle for black liberation, and to end institutionalized racism and exploitation. Seale began his career in the Black Panthers in 1966 when he y and associate Huey P. Newton formed the g armed revolution against the party, which advocated a power structure. During his eight years as chairman of the Black Panther Party, Seale initiated such community based service programs as: breakfast for school children, free busing for senior citizens, preventative medical health care, cooperative housing, voter registration drives, and numerous other programs. Seale is director of Advocates Scene Inc., a national community-organizinnetwork based in Washington, D.C. While Advocates Scene Inc. is not an organization, it does aid communities in developing their own organizations. Pringle, will share his views on apartheid from the point of view of a native of South Africa. Pringle believes that disinvestment of United States monetary interests in South Africa would create worse problems for the South African economy and do nothing to end apartheid. Pringle believes that apartheid is not racist segregation, but a necessary means of providing sufficient education for all. As founder of the Society of Stewards and Stewardesses of the Sun, Pringles organization uses volunteers to serve as educational missionaries to help the people of South Africa to improve their lives and living conditions. The debate begins at 11 a.m. in the SUSC Auditorium. political-revolutionar- X I I gun-totin- COUPON I HALLOWEEN SPECIAL I OFF ANY LARGE PIZZA OR ANY $3.00 non-prof- LARGE I it g PRIAZZO active-involveme- 579 S MAIN ST.
