Show The Thunderbird Monday October 14, 1985 Page 5 Personalities BY CAROLYN BESS Nancy Auteri loves Cedar City You think you know them. You pass them on campus everyday. But do you really know them ? Do you know what they are like ? Do you know what their favorite food is? Or what they want out of life? Beginning this week and alternating every second week with Steve Yates Cachectic Observatory' we will devote this column to personalities. If there is someone you want to know more about, or someone who stands out for his or her achievements, drop their name by The Thunderbird and we will consider them for our personality column. They may be a student, a teacher or just someone who works on campus. Anyone you feel is worth getting to know. She is orginally from Las Vegas, and came to SUSC to become a member of the debate team. Commenting about her arrival to SUSC, she says, I thought Id stay here for a year and thats it. But now, no way! I love it here; I dont want to leave. Her name is Nancy Auteri, a 54 brunette who loves life. I like to get the most out of life that I can. Just reach out and grasp it, Tired of Generic Walls? Decorate them with silk flowers, ribbons etc. Plus a large selection of art supplies! she says. Interviewing Nancy, I get the feeling the most important thing in her life is happiness, and she confirms my belief when she says, If youre not happy doing something, why do it? Change. Its no biggy. She smiles and says quietly, I dont really have a favorite quote, but if something makes you happy, go for it! I guess thats a quote. Nancy enjoys reading and going up the canyon. But she doesnt waste time. She says, Youve got to keep going, dont waste time. There is something you can always be doing to better yourself. As a communications major with an emphasis in public relations and advertising, she would eventually like to work in public relations and be a public speaker. Her favorite color is red, Because its a bright, and thats just Nancys personality: bright, bubbly and outgoing. When you see someone succeeding you always think, Id like to be like that, but there are so many examples out there, I cant choose just one. She smiles and the lady in her comes out as she leans her chin into her hands. The most important quality a person can have? Personality a person could have the greatest looks in the world, but if that person doesnt have personality, well. . . if he or she has a great personality you can get along with that person better, and with Nancy, as we close the interview, I can see why she is so will liked. People get along with her because she has personality. Women on these teams generally surpassed their male counterparts in passing percentages, saves, and passing accuracy. If the sport is played correctly, there is no reason that men and women cannot compete together safely. Rather than promote mediocrity, SUSC should encourage excellence in all areas even in volleyball. Mike Nielsen Take better care of trees TO THE EDITOR: appalled at the new ravages perpetrated by the keepers of our grounds. Is it not enough that we must walk on the grass while the sidewalks are watered?!? Apparently not, for our young, I am delicate trees are suffering indignities beyond belief at the hands of some of the grounds keepers. Professor Al Tait is rightly concerned, and the young trees of this crown jewel are fortunate to have such a capable man watching over them. Lawn Mower Blight should not menace our lovely campus, and I add my name to the list of those who oppose this dreaded injustice. Mary Daniels ATTENTION!
