Show W X The Thundcrbird Monday January 21, KGSU-Cabl- e by Kon Kontogiannis KGSU-CablSUSCs television studio, will begin broadcasting programs over local cable television today, assuming the cable companys connections are in working order. The students will produce three different shows. The first is Southwest Journal, which is the best of their efforts, according to Don Godfrey, television productions adviser. Most of the seniors are working on this program, which is an interview-magazin- e format. The students ihterview visiting personalities, Convocation speakers and other important people in town. For example, Mike Farrell, star of MASH, the governor, professors and other people have been interviewed on the show. The students have reported on everything from wilderness areas and national parks to Kolob Canyon to major college theatre productions and athletic events. This production has been shown for the last year on KDL, channel 55, St. George, because Cedar Citys cable company only recently completed the connection between its studio and the college studio. Two other programs being produced .are a sports show, Sports Stock, which airs each Wednesday, and a business weekly magazine, Business Chronicle, which is produced in Harry Swansons office in the business building. In addition to these programs, the colleges weekly Convocation lecture will be taped each week and rebroadcast the 1 985 Page 7 TV set to go into operation today According to Godfrey, the whole idea of the program and the channel itself is to serve the community and show the unique interaction between whats happening on the college campus and in the community and the students point of view of those interactions. The students gain valuable experience which outweighs that which is gained by lecturing, Godfrey said. There are 16 students involved in these productions and as soon as the show goes on the air and the excitement grows, the number of students involved will also grow. In a short period of time, we will be connected to not only the KDL channel in St. George but to the cable company in Delta, because they too want to carry some of the programs we produce, Godfrey said. Theres good publicity and community involvement for SUSC. The college channel also contributes to news agencies along the Wasatch Front.
