Show Page 2 The Thunderbird Monday January 21, 1985 Senate chooses Hinchcliff to replace Mark Fuller The ASSUSC Senate Wednesday approved Kent Hinchcliff, a physical science major from Hurricane, as a winter quarter replacement for former Science Senator Mark Fuller. Hinchcliff had also served as a senator during his freshman one of the year in 1980-8reasons the senate gave him the nod over seven other applicants for the position. I am experienced with the duties of a senator, whereas those others applying for the position probably arent, Hinchcliff told senators in an application letter. The senate interviewed five applicants and narrowed the list to three, Hinchcliff, Steve Johnson and Jeff Hayes. Hes already had experience, and hes jumping in at the end here, said Education Senator Susan Bond, voicing favor for Hinchcliff. Hinchcliff also told senators he probably would not for senate again in the upcoming election, and Bond noted, That would give the others a chance. In other business, the senate approved a $550 appropriation for the soccer club, trimming run The soccer club was allocated $550 by the ASSUSC senate. down the original request for $750. The club plans to use some of the money for tournament play at Dixie College, BYU and UNLV. Kon Kontogiannis, soccer club president, said the club has also had to travel to St. George for weekly practices because of bad weather and because it cant get floor time in the gym. Karen Shepherd, editor and publisher of Network magazine, will discuss the emerging roles of men and women Jan. 24. Last week, The Thunderbird reported that Shepherd would be speaking on Jan. 17. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused. The Convocation lecture begins at 1 1 a.m. in the SUSC Auditorium. Shepherd will talk about the history of Network magazine and how it deals with the working women of todays Shepherd will be the featured guest. This luncheon is for faculty and staff women and all those interested in attending should RSVP Bonnie Mitchell at 7770 by Tuesday at 5 p.m. Utah. There will be an informal luncheon hosted by the Utah Consortium for Utah Women in Higher Education at noon immediately following the lecture.
