Show The Thunderbud Rodeo team ranked first T132c3 a Southern Utah State College is ranked first in three events following the first National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association meet of the 1984-8- 5 school year. Following competition this weekend at a Rocky Mountain NIRA rodeo at Utah Technical College, Provo-OreSUSC is seated first in bull riding, first in breakaway calf roping and first in individual womens competition. Gary Bulloch, a Cedar City junior, won top honors in bull riding while Betty Jo Christensen, a sophomore from New Castle, finished tops in the two other categories, according to Mark Wright, rodeo team adviser. Were really proud of our efforts, Wright said. The UTC wins have given us the momentum we need to win again this weekend at Idaho State University. Led by Christensen, the SUSC womens team finished third behind UTC, Provo-Oreand a very strong Utah State University team. We finished this way in overall standings last season, Wright said, and our efforts this year are to edge out UTC for second place and a chance to compete in the NIRA Nationals at Montana State University in June. Lisa Lewis, a junior from Center Creek, Wasatch County, is the fourth womens team member. SUSC men finished fourth overall in the regional meet. Freshman Ladd Dick, Toole, was sitting in second place going into the bull riding finals and finished fifth overall while freshman Troy Warr, Erda, Toole County, finished fifth in bareback riding. Senior Vincent Larry, Thoreau, N.M., finished first in the first round in saddle bronc riding but didnt fare so well in the finals. Other mens team members are freshmen Alan Hansen, Tooele, and senior Jefferson Biakeddy, Black Mesa, Ariz. We have some very strong contenders in individual mens competition, Wright said. College of Southern Idaho, Weber State College and UTC, Provo-Oreare favored to take the team titles. NIRA competition in the Rocky Mountain region is between teams from CSI, Weber State, Idaho State University; Brigham Young University; USU, UTC, Provo-OreUTC, Salt Lake City, Snow College; Boise State, and SUSC.
