Show Page 4 Special fISSUSC Supplement Voter registration interest high here due to the ASSUSC increased In a democracy citizens relate consciously to politics in two basic ways. One is through their views, feelings and orientation toward the campaigning process. The other is through their perceptions of personal impact on the electural process. Students at SUSC seem to have an increased awareness of politics and the political process according to director of voter registration, Vince Meldrum. Students registering to vote has threefold, largely sponsored Voter Registration Drive. We are really excited about these results says Student Body President Scott Price. Campus Voter Registration is new to SUSC. The drive was created in conjunction with the Utah Student Association, and adds an aura of political activism to our campus. Democracy is alive and well in southern Utah and is reflected by these outstanding results. Hciv organizations instituted The Associated Students, in its constant effort to meet the evolving need of the students, has created four new organizations and positions under direction of ASSUSC director of student affairs Mitch Connell. To develop effective means of communication between students and student government, The Inner Communications Board was formed. Its goals are to create forums for students, to give input to student government on the issues effecting students, and to manage a suggestion box in the student center. The I.C.B. is under the direct supervision of chairwoman Karen Gutwaid. The On Campus Housing Council, consisting of the Director of Student Affairs, the presidents of both residence halls, and the RHA Activities Coordinator, was created to create an avenue of communication between those students living in on campus housing and student government. It also serves to keep student government abreast of the issues of students in student housing. The Director of Student Affairs is also serving as the Student Ombudsman. The duty of the ombudsman is to intercede on the students behalf in conflicts between students and professorsadministrators. If you need the service of the student ombudsman, call Mitch Connell at 586-776- 6. Finally, the Student Tenant Association was created under the direction of Mitch Connell to help meet the needs of students living off campus.
