Show The Tfumderfrird Better to let go of Hard to Hold OntLG SALE ENDS APRIL 14 Its difficult to write about Hard Co Hold with a straight face. They should have called it Hard to Sit Through. Consider that the actors cant act, the director cant direct, the screenwriter cant write and the music would start wolves howling. Rick Springfield, in his big screen debut, plays unfulfilled hard rock superstar Jamie Roberts, a cliche masquerading as a romantic lead. Poor Rick, his days on General Hospital have left him with a terminal case of In what passes (with the ease of a kidney stone) for a plot, Jamie runs into Diana (Janet Eilber). Naturally, they fall in love, and there follows an uncompelling series of hardships the two lovers must face things like dead fathers and cynical songwriters. Its the task of a film critic to take some time outlining the plot of a movie, and Id love to do that here, but there really isnt much of a plot. That omission would kill any movie, but Hard to Hold also offers no character exposition, no logical conflict and very little memorable music. This movie is quite obviously nothing more than a vehicle for Springfields feature film ambitions. To make a metaphor, this vehicle is an Edsel; worse, some nameless punks seem to have stolen the tires and drained the gas tank. Oh, there were a few good moments in this picture, especially early on when it appeared Hard to Hold was not going to take itself seriously like a scene in which Jamie is locked out of his dressing room wearing only a towel. In any other movie such scenes might not stand out; its just that everything else in Hard to Hold was boring in extremis (which the dictionary defines as to Joans or 2 for $3000 over-actin- REG. $2000 DESPERADO JEANS REG. $2895-$329- 5 NOW ONLY Briftanla Joans w REG. the point of death.) Here are a few of the words and phrases I wrote in my notes during the movie: disjointed, poorly developed characters, fuzzy camera focus, convoluted plotline and mediocre screenplay. No, truly, this movie isnt all bad, but it was close. When I saw it the audience grew so restless that most of the people spent the last half of the movie talking to each other. A friend of mine, sitting next to me, leaned over halfway through the movie. When do you think this is going to end? he ElP. $21 00 CaGClGOGAD Downtown Cedar City j: I said. I was right.
