The Tfumderbird Monday, January 23, 1984 Anderson cites corruption of party system (continued from page 2) Anderson contends that none of these functions are being served, except every four years during elections. As an example of the corruption of the two party system, Anderson points to political action committees which he said are a major source for groups or individuals to gain special consideration from legislators. The number of political action committees has increased from 300 in the last (presidential) election to over 3,500 now, says Anderson. But the PACs arent the only sources of funds for a legislator. Anderson gave examples of United States corporations, interest groups and individuals who provide legislators with massive funding. Anderson maintains, I could tell you stories of capitol corruption that would curl your eyebrows. Andersons National Unity Party has a charter which legislative party members must support by not accepting PAC funds. Anderson feels a major reason for voter apathy is that many people dont feel their vote will count. I personally believe that as the voter hears the connection between the dollar and politics, they will Page 15 that their vote is outweighed by the dollar. Anderson suggests that all political elections should be publicly financed. Why does it take others like Britain only 26 days to elect their prime minister, but feel we have to have this four year floating crap game? Anderson used a quote by Thomas Jefferson to describe his feeling for the party system, If I couldnt without a political party, I wouldnt go at go to heaven all. Anderson has not yet announced his candidacy for but will support whoever his National Unity Party nominates in their June convention. 1984, Classified Thunderbird classifieds may be purchased for 50 cents for each 30 words.
