Show The Tfumdcrbird Monday, January 23, 1984 Page 11 Students to be featured on PTA SUSC-goer- s who enjoy watching television during dinner hours may soon get to see some familiar faces and places flashing across their TV screens. Prime Time Access, a Utah news and entertainment magazine offered by KSL, will feature a segment on Southern Utah State College, Eurch Mann and the SUSC dance ensemble class and development at Brianhead ski resort. The show will air sometime within the next two or three weeks, according to Margaret Smoot and Kerry Jensen, who filmed the reports for the Salt Lake TV station last week. Smoot indicated that the rapid enrollment increase at SUSC and how the college intends to deal with it will be the prime focus of one of the segments. Jensen and Smoot spent Thursday afternoon filming dances and exercises by the dance ensemble, a performing class taught by Burch Mann, distinguished artist in residence at SUSC. The camera team also invested some time in an interview with Mann, the founder, choreographer and artistic director of the American Folk Ballet. The dance ensemble had a chance to strut its stuff last week when it joined forces with Opus II, the music departments jazz choir, for a week-lon- g public relations tour of northern Utah that culminated in an evening performance for the state legislators in Salt Lake. The groups presented their assembly at Brighton, Granger, Alta, Cottonwood and West Jordan High Schools and followed President Gerald R. Sherratts speech and slide show at the Sheraton Hotel with a program of music and movement that brought the audience to its feet in te standing ovation. The dance ensemble continued the jazz theme with a 1920s romp to Blues My Naughty Sweetie Taught Me; also a country hoedown which added a touch of the West. It was very successful, stated Mann. Ronald Aden, Opus director, echoes Manns a multi-ethni- c sentiments. It was received very well. We got quality exposure for SUSC up North. Admissions Director Mark Barton, who accompanied the performers to discuss SUSC programs with interested high school students, was also pleased with the results. Were hoping to do this on a regular basis, at least every year. Its productive from the expenditure standpoint but funding just wont allow us to do it all the time. The performers wont be touring all the time, but Opus will travel to Nevada next week to participate in a high school music arts series in Panaca. The dancers, though, will have a while to breathe; no new dance tours are being planned yet.
