Show Page 4 The Thunderbird. Monday, January 16 , 1984 Leaders recognize time for changes XuHAT LfOR SUSC has been changing and growing rapidly over the years, its clear, but many campus organizations havent kept up with the pace. Student government is a good example of this, as Student Body President Mark Wade is well aware. With only minor changes having occurred in the constitution over the past 10 years, Wade has undertaken the task of reorganizing student government in order to revitalize and improve its I llUl DO THE find tr 11,1 YOU OF THE NFU THINK special a Had Pill rfl II H 'to ' evea'T-- ltd I center. s swallow r,t efficiency. The system has proven unwieldy and of the excessive number of officers because disorganized and a lack of working within the government, communication is often the result. Wade and others involved with student government have traveled to other campuses to gather information and gain insight into how ASSUSC can modernize its outdated methods. Some of the changes outlined will help to streamline the present student government by cutting the number of officers nearly in half. Although members will be required to take on more responsibility, the opportunities to experience leadership will likewise be greater. It is also hoped by Wade that with a smaller government, those involved will be better compensated for their work in serving the needs of students. Wade would also like a larger percentage of the rather than government to be student appointed by the president. An open meeting is planned to gain student input toward the changes he has proposed. Student government is the means by which students can voice their opinions and be guaranteed their rights, and it is hoped by The Thunderbird that more will take an active part in these decisions. We congratulate Wade and the officers of SUSCs student government for their imagination and insight into the problems facing ASSUSC and endorse the change. We also applaud their willingness to accept input from the student body and hope that the current disorganization cited by Wade does not preclude full participation by those who wish it. current body-electe- d, What did you think about Mike Farrells lecture and remarks in icsponse to students' questions 1 Sheri Evans: I thought he was very friendly.
