However, participating in sports helps her keep that average up, she said. Because I have to organize my time and allow so much time to study, being an athlete is a blessing to me and my studies, Burgoyne said. As a standout basketball and volleyball player for SUSC, Burgoyne has received honorable mention honors in both sports every year for the last three years. Two years ago, she was named SUSCs Most Valuable Player in basketball. Last year, she was SUSCs female athlete of the year. Burgoyne not only has to compete with the elements of the games, but also switching from volleyball to basketball. It is hard to adjust from volleyball to basketball, but so far there have not been many real problems, Burgoyne said. Burgoynes achievements have not all been in sports. Aside from being offered academic scholarships to almost every school in Utah, last year she was awarded the Sterling Scholar award, and was named to the Academic team. I love to play sports, but I also love school and keeping my grades up. I want to be a teacher and maybe someday a coach at the college level, she said. Burgoyne has a double major, studying both elementary education and physical education. Winter will be her last academic quarter, but she will complete student teaching in the spring, she said. If I dont get a job offer this summer, I will come back to SUSC for another quarter to James Hoyle, agent, Terry Hoyle, agent 164 West Center, Cedar City Women's athlete of the week Amy Wright, a freshman from Provo, Utah, played well in the Lady Birds opening basketball scrimmage last week, displaying an aggressive shooting, passing and defensive game.
