As in the past, student leaders at Southern Utah State College attended a fall leadership conference which was held this year at Lake Powell. The purpose of the conference was to learn about many of the things that would need to be accomplished for each of us as students. The other main purpose of the conference was to promote a feeling of friendship and unity among those who will work throughout the year together. Both purposes of the conference seem to have been met and the year planned by ASSUSC is well on its way to meeting the needs of each of us as students. During the past six months an extra amount of time has been spent in changing and upgrading many facets of ASSUSC. For example, a new sound system and library of music has been purchased specifically for dances on campus. The Constitution for ASSUSC has been reviewed and is in the process of being amended. Tuition increases and other important issues have been analyzed to find alternate solutions for problems facing us. We are also opening student council positions to include large committees, enabling all students to have an active part in activities and many decisions that take place. Excellent activities have been planned and are in the making two of which are A Night With SUSC, an opportunity to become acquainted with the talent we have at Southern Utah State, and the Air Supply concert. An abundance of talent and a wide variety of backgrounds has aided this years student leaders in preparing a schedule of events that will be unrivaled in the past and perhaps in years to come. The dance coordinators position on the executive council is available, Wade said. A new attorney general will be needed due to the resignation of Bob Johnson, who left SUSC to attend a Bible college. Elections for the job will take place the same day as the freshman elections. Applications to run for the post are available through Dave Taylor, ASSUSC adviser. Applicants should also pick up a copy of campaign regulations. Wade said a change in the student constitution is pending which may alter the duties and name of the attorney generals . 4 office. Should the Senate approve the change, the new office would be called activities vice president, and would regulate social activities on campus, Wade said.
