Show Page 8 Student Life "Wednesday May 12 1976 Career training in aging outlined by gerontologist the aging population increases the government has initiated aging problems to meet the needs of the elderly Universities across the nation are now introducing courses and programs for the study and career training in aging Four years ago the Rocky Mountain Gerontology Center was organized at the University ' of Utah Five of the major universities in the state of Utah - participate int he center program and have developed course work and career training in gerontoAs logy This program is not a degree but it offers the program student upon completion of 18 hours of course work related to gerontology and 6 hours of course work in practicum a certificate ' 41 smm & what does it feel like to be old? Carlos found out The entire project is sponsored by the Geron- tology class YOU I continued award that indicates an interest in and special training that will help the student qualify for employment in agencies serving the aged This year 10 students at USU will be certificate granted awards in gerontology They are: Kathleen Jensen Grant Tolley Sharon Mary McElheny The last production of the USU Theatre 1975-7- 6 season will be the modern comedy “6 RMS RIV VU” by Bob Randall The play is scheduled to play the Lyric Thea- 8:00 pm May and 21 22 The somewhat unusual title of this production is taken from classified advertising jargon such as that which would be found in an Apartments for Rent listing - thus the play’s title easily translates to read “6 Rooms River View” The reference is to the set in which the comedy takes place which is a vacant apartment in New York City The plot finds members of two families accidently closed inside the flat because the front doorknob has come off when they tried to leave “6 RMS RIV VU” had a successful New York run in 1972 and a TV production the following year starred Carol Burnett and Alan Alda and received some critical acclaim The USU Theatre production is directed by Kim Christison a theatre arts graduate student and holder of the Floyd T Morgan “Theatre Arts Honorary scholarship The set is by Jim Simard and costumes by Angel Beck Constantine Demos and Tracie Hoffman play the leading roles Tickets for “6 RMS RIV VU” are available at the UC Ticket Office at City Drug and at the theatre both before curtain time 13-1- 5 (Continued from page 5) “All it really takes is energy” says Adkins who believes that his campus antics in some ways reflect what’s going on nation- ally “People are so bored All we need to d® is energize them and at least something — anything — will get done “They are looking for entertainment as much as anything else How else could a guy with just a tap dance and a smile like Jimmy Carter go as far as he has?” It is a question that fellow Texans' will decide May 1 when the state takes its turn in the presidential primary system Until then (and if Adkins is right maybe even after then) the absurdist party is confined to the campus of the University of Texas and a few other student strongholds And as far as San Antonio Express columnist Roddy Stinson is concerned that’s too bad “Jay Adkins may be the only politician in the nation and certainly the only one in Texas who has figured out the nature of American politics’ “In a word: Absurd” Scholarship information Dr Gale Dick of the University of Utah will be on campus today at 1:30 in Library 349 (Honors Lounge) to give pointers to interested students on how to apply for major national scholarships This should be of special interest to juniors who are placing to apply for Rhodes Danforth and Fulbright other or graduate study scholarships next year Dr Dick is Chairman of the Physics Department and Associate Director of the Honors Program at the U of U and serves on the Utah Selection Commitiee of the Rhodes Scholars te logy What are some of the services that we as students at Utah State might do to assist the professional personnel at Sunshine Terrace?
