university pus said officials equitably recognizes the rights of non-smoke- and smokers alike rs Specific areas have been designated for smoking and nonsmoking with mutual respect being the governing factor The policy was developed officials said in the milieu of growing recognition throughout the nation that prefer to have areas in public places set aside where they can be free from the presence of tobacco smoke Public conveyances business houses government buildings and similar areas have had areas designated as smoke-fre- e For the information of new students and staff the essentials of the policy are restated here: On the USU campus lounges have been set aside in some buildings for smokers Smoking is also permitted in private offices except in buildings excluded because of fire hazard building use or inadequate ventilation in classrooms Smoking non-smoke- rs laboratories restrooms hallways elevators auditoriums dafeterias and other publicly used areas is prohibited Smoking is not permitted in any portion of the following buildings: Alumni Center Animal Science Culmsee Home Edith Bowen School Family Life Building Man and His Bread Museum Mechanical Arts Building Nelson Field House HPER Building Old Main Psychology-Anima- l Center Laboratory Radio-TReceiving and Stores Spectrum University Relations Building or V University Center except in Vending specified rooms Building and all other buildings basically of wooden construction Executive Memorandum No 73-- 1 originating from the office of the president states: “Adherence to the smoking policy and appropriately informing campus visitors is the responsibility of all staff and students Deans department heads and other supervisory personnel are responsible for the enforcement of the policy “Student violators disciplinary proceedings for violation of university policies Staff violators should be referred to the appropriate supervisor department head and or dean who will take appropriate steps to handle the
