Devoted to the development of greater junior citizenship Published every month Entered 1920 at the the act of mailing at in section authorized as second class matter Dec 14 post office at Logan Utah under August 24 1912 Acceptance for special rate of postage provided 1103 Act of October 3 1917 March 3 1921 Editor VERNAL WILLIE Associate Editors W E RITER L S MORRIS I L HENRIE G Lj LOVELESS ! aint it a grand and glorious feeling” Some one says our high schools are “football crazy’ When we sum it up probably that adjective describes it as precisely as any other but we are not ashamed of the facts At least our high schools are football enthusiasts real keen of the old gridiron sport To the high school student nothing presents more thrill and fascination than the football eleven of his school He watches them trot in on the field just before the fray and feels tingling sensations play up and down his loyal spine It is nothing but the true-blu- e pride coming to the surface The “Ag Club Link” congratulates the high schools of the state for their sincere efforts and accomplishments in boosting old king football to his exalted throne After a season f wnderful success the Utah High School Football League finished as red-blood- DECEMBER 1921 Volume VI Number 3 i t EDITORIAL 1 i CONTEST A SUCCESS With fifty essays received representing fifteen high schools and academies of Utah the first U A C Ag Club Essay Contest lias closed The Link wishes to congratulate the boys who sent in essays The essays received are very well written Marked ability in writing is shown in practically all of them The Ag Club is very well pleased with the results of this first contest and it is planned to make of it an annual event The judges have not as yet finished readAs soon however ing all of the essays as they decide upon the three best the winners will be announced and the three medals will be sent to them The names of winners and the winning essays will be published in the January number of the Link Wc extend the seasons greetings to all Ag Clubbers of the State Let’s make this Christmas and New Year the best ever follows ed : Divisional Standing Salt Lake Utah County 1st East High Pavson 2nd West High Provo 3rd Jordan Springville 4th L D S U 5th Granite Cache County 1st Logan High 2nd North Cache Lehi Spanish Fork Weber County Boxelder Ogden 3rd Oneida Academy Davis South Cache Weber The East Side High of Salt Lake City won the state championship and also the High School Rocky Mountain Conference title To all you state High Schools some of which are not mentioned here there is but one word of advice “Don’t give up the ship” Keep pushing football and keep optimistic Never mind the other fellow take (Continued on Page 4) T’was just a helpless small Berkshire That once I picked from out the mire Its owner smiled and said “I guess I’ll make you master of this mess” “He ain’t got life enough to eat He ain’t worth nothin’ much for ‘meat But if you want to take the hog He might make pickens for your dog” quickly wrapped by coat about His body legs and left the snout For Mr Porker to rejoice In shrill pathetic tones of voice I made for him a bed of hay Wiped all the mud and dirt away Stirred up a mash of milk and bran An’ Air Piggie cleaned the pan I Not long it took the care I gave Until this little Berkshire knave Could frish about kick up his heels And offer healthy hearty squeals Most anyone would have to stare At Mr Porker’s bill of fare For thru my hopeful watchful eyes I had in him beheld a prize “Fair Orpheus” then I named the swine And joined the pig club just in time To enter in the contest there Held at the local county fair At last there came the judging day The judges came right o’er my way And left two ribbons on my pen For “Fair Orpheus” — Gentleman The former owner looked him o’er And said “You have a champeen boar The runt you picked from out the mire Comes from thoroughbred Berkshire For that young pork that in there squeals I’ll give you just five hundred wheels I didn’t have a word to say But held my hand the money-wa- y I looked around and found a cow I bought a fine young breeding sow And then I bargained for some sheep “A well stocked farm” I said “PH kcP ' And now I have some other stock A little land a chicken flock In a “yellow bug” I gently jog For showing mercy to a hog —Archie-- U A C |
