society of that place and also a report of their finances the report shows the society at payson as one of the most morat flourishing in the territory in sister B jane simons they avey have an excellent president and the prosperity of the society ig is no doubt owing in great part to her exertions it affords us p pleasure 1 basure to know that the society there and also those in other settlements are doing well the payson society has within the past year distributed to the needy 84 and has on hand at the present time 05 which for a small settlement like payson is very good FROM THE SOUTH brothers heywood and redd bedd from harmony called caled on us this morning and reported everything in a flourishing condition at that place they have a prospect for good crops at all the set clements tle ments south of cedar there they met the first grasshoppers at parowan carowan Pa rowan paragon nah kanosh meadow creek fillmore and holden the crops also loo ie ic well and appear to te be but slightly damaged by the grasshoppers A short time since a fight occurred between the beaver and kanosh indians in which two of the kanosh andl indians were killed and one of the tho beaver indi ans was wounded the citizens of beaver stopped the fight by disarming the indians it resulted arom a dispute arising from their gambling the beaver indians appear incensed at being interfered with within in their fight and the tho kanosh indians these brethren saw on their way up expressed their determination mi nation to have it out in the course of five or 0 six weeks FROM SATURDAYS DAILY
