Its these people of seventy and eighty years old that are being analyzed to see what makes them live so long. Theyre looking for the secret of old age. They want to find the fabled Fountain of Youth that Ponce de Leon was looking for. For instance its a well known fact that married men live longer than single men. Or maybe it just seems longer. I dont know. Some people think that life is miserable while theyre single. So they get married and make some one else miserable too and think theyre doing the right thing. But, I disagree. For Classified Advertising Call CY REPORTERS: Elizabeth Yowell have read, with a great deal of interest, quite a few articles on growing old. Everyone does, sooner or later and because of this it makes good reading. Some of the larger magazines have made a study of longevity and have had a big to do about it. This in itself has an interesting sidelight. Not too long ago people were just people. But not any more, now we have teenagers, post teenagers, middle-ager- s, I Kearns Kearns Bennion Kearns She has worked in the Sunday School as teacher and is ward and stake attending MIA secretary. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Dali of Richfield, Utah, she has been living with a sister and brother-in-lain Kearns for the past six years. A missionary farewell will be held for her Sunday, Oct. 25, in the Kearns Second Ward chapel at 7 p.m. w I read an interesting article in a medical magazine the other day. The author claimed that if you live till youre about seventy five the aging process reverses itself and actually you get younger again. This seems rather ridiculous. If this theory holds true, a guy 150 years old will have to be fed with a bottle and burped by his great grandson. This joker says that if you live to ve seventy or so your chances of living till youre a hundred are very good of course if you die before youre seventy your chances of getting to be a hundred are 'rather slim. Theres another point thats always had me confused. Everybody wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die. Everyone wants to live in the hereafter for eternities but they dont know what to do with themselves when the T.V. goes out for a couple of hours. But Im getting off the subject again. I started out to tell you a story so here it is. One of the reporters for a leading magazine Phone AMherst 6-44- wanted to find out for himself the secret of longevity. So he headed for the old folks home to ask 79' By Rolf W Kay a few questions of the old timers. He wanted to find and find out first hand how they lived to a ripe old age. He walked around the old folks home and as he came out on the porch he noticed two old men sitting together. They both had long grey beards and withered limbs. They slowly rocked in their rocking chairs holding onto their canes and gnarled hands. They were waiting for the grim reaper and were ready for him. The reporter explained his mission to the two men and asked the first old timer, To what do you owe your longevity? a couple of real oldsters The old man looked at him with jaundiced eyes, he said, From the time I was a youngster I lived a good clean life, I never drank or smoked or chewede tobacco. I ate only vegetables and fruit and all my bread was stone ground. I stayed away from meat and took vitamin tablets every day. I slept at least 8 hours every night and spent a lot of time in the gym exercising. I always got a lot of fresh air and never spent any time in pools halls or other musty places where the air was foul. Well, The reporter listened carefully and said, Thats wonderful. May I ask how old you are Sir? Ninety six, came the reply. The reporter turned to the other man and said, How about you sir, what kind of a life did you lead? Me? he asked, I didnt do any of those things my buddy here did. Im afraid I was kind of a bounder. I started to drink hard likker and smoke cigars when I was just a kid. I dont think Ive ever exercised in my life: I couldnt stand the taste of fruits or vegetables so all I ate was meat. Most of the time I drank my meals, if you know what I mean. And sleep, I didnt know the meaning of the word. Never got more than five or six hours sleep a night. In fact I hardly ever got out in the sun. Pool halls and night clubs, that was my speed. I never took a vitamin pill in my life. And never went in the doctors office either. The reporter was amazed. He said, Well you certainly didnt lead the same kind of life your friend did. And how old are you sir? Twenty seven. came the reply. 4760 South Redwood Road Sporting Goods & Locker Service l BUILDING SPECIALTIES I FULLER PAINT GARDEN TOOLS : Model 12 Winchester, ELECTRICAL - Reg. $104.95 - NOW $94.95 12-g- a.
