Show Page 4 Thursday, October 8, 1959 THE VALLEY VIEW NEWS PTA Meeting ANYTHING GOES ByRoiw.KV There were a few interesting news items that developed this week and with your kind indulgence Id like to comment on them. First of all the Donut Institute stated that the hole in the Donut will be a quarter of an inch smaller next year. They say that they restyled the donut to help fight pending national inflation. Evidentally the size of the hole has always been a barometer of the times. The smaller the hole the better the economic picture. Well, more power to you, donut makers, if the size of the donut hole can lower taxes and stabilize the economy Im with you all the way. Talking of donuts reminds me of an old saying they used to have hanging in a donut house back in New York. It went like this: AS YOU RAMBLE ON THRU LIFE BROTHER, WHATEVER BE YOUR GOAL, KEEP YOUR EYE UPON THE DONUT, AND NOT UPON THE HOLE. I imagine all of you are following the polygamy investigation in Davis County with a great deal of interest. I find it quite intriguing. Of course I cant for the life of me understand why a man would want more than one wife. Dont misunderstand me, I think married life (with one wife) is the greatest thing since they put pockets in a shirt. I can just barely afford to keep one wife and three kids and I cant figure where anyone could find enough money to keep a half a dozen wifes and their offsprings. If this practice of polygamy is as prevelant as it seems to be I can just see some businessmen taking advantage of the situation. Cant you just see a finance company advertising: Special low interest rates to polygamists. Or a restaurant advertising, We have large dining rooms and cater to polygamists and their families. I understand that the polygamists are leaving Davis County till the heat is off. If this is the case, they shouldnt be too hard to find. All the cops have to do is look for busses with one man, a few women and a passel of kids and nab them. After all it isnt too simple to move from one place to another with a mob like that. But the thing that bothers me is what are they going to do to these people when they catch them. They cant punish the man any more than hes already been punished. After all, the punishment for If a polygamy is more than one mother-in-la- KEARNS 66 SERVICE Where You Get Fast. I hope you are all aware of the fact that were in the middle of Letter Writing Week. The Post Office is urging everyone to write more letters this week. Why they should ask this Im sure I dont know. They cant handle the mail now let alone the mail load that would result if everyone in the United States wrote one extra letter this week. For instance, a few weeks ago a friend of mine put a first class letter in the mail on Tuesday morning. It was rather important and I looked for it in Wednesdays mail. It didnt arrive till Friday afternoon. And the strange thing was, this letter was mailed no more than three blocks away. Oh, I got mail every day you understand. I got brochures on Royal Bee Jelly, an advertisement on Bonkey Glands, a letter saying that I could buy dried out sun flower seeds at a tremendous savings, a circular describing a new book on Yoga, an urgent letter stating that I could buy a guitar (complete with ten lessons) for $2.98 from Clint, Texas and a chance to enter a polka contest in Philadelphia. But the letter that was mailed three blocks away took four days to get to me. And the post office has the unmitigated gall to ask us to clog up the mails telling your old Aunt Matilda, that you havent written in years, that Uncle Zekes hernia has finally done the old boy in. Please, do me a favor, call, dont write. Im expecting another important letter and I dont want it held up by a bunch of nonsensical gossip. It seems the nurses are beginning to specialize y nurse deplores as much as the doctors. An this situation and made the statement that if specialization had been around in the days of Florence Nightingale she probably would have had some one else carry her lantern as she was making the rounds. A very interesting point. Of course this modern day method of practicing medicine does have its good points. If youre afflicted with a disease it may take you so long to find the specialist that can take care of you, that nature cures you in the meanwhile. Look at all the money youll save, I dont have anything against specialization, to a point. But I understand that one doctor back east has a shingle hanging outside of his office that reads, Practice limited to the nose, left nostril only. Youll have to agree that this is carrying things too far. ex-arm- Brimley TV Service All Makes, all Tubes Tested, Tuner and Class Cleaned - Fast Service Honest Work - Guar. G. F.
