Allgood seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs Sidney C, Allgood of 3152 W. S Salt Lake City, Utah, is serving abroad the heavy crusier USS Los Angeles, operating as a unit of the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the Far East. The Los Angeles, armed with e long-ranggun bat teries and the egulus guided missile, is a component of Cruiser Div-sio- n Five, and has Long Beach, Cdl. as her home port. -- multi-purpos- e, til around May 1, Mr. Ensign said! the swamp buggy has already been used to plow dry areas of the pond, open lateral irrigation furrows and carry men and equipment to difficult to reach areas for maintaining the interconnected rotating spray system. The vehicle has performed very satisfactorily so far, and we have high hopes that it will prove an effective tool in solving the problem of dust during high wind storms, said Mr. Ensign. Later, the swamp buggy may be equipped with tanks and used to spray crusting agents over dry areas not lending themselves to irrigation with wet tailings. Var-- J ious known crusting agents are now being tested. When a satisfactory agent is found, this phase of the work will get underway. Although the frame and cab are similar to a conventional truck, the swamp buggy travels on six pneumatic large, sausage-shapebags. The bags float the vehicle, even with heavy loads, over normally imnassable. land. Modifications to meet the peculiar needs of dust abatement work in-clude a three-poisuspension hitch, standard hitch and front and rear power winches. ooo . d' nt Purchase of the unique swamp-bugg- y is part of the Utah Copper Divisions continuing effort to solve the dust problem at the tailings pond, said Superintendent Ensign. The Division has spent several hundred thousand dollars on dust abatement work in recent years. Flowers for Mothers' Day . . . at Oakeson's 5250 So. 3200 W.
