Other newly elected officers, committee members andtheir business affiliations are: President Ray Gigoux, F. W. Woolworth Co.; Vice President Howard Nelson, Kearns Lanes; Past President Sheldon Holmes, Docs Dept. Store. The Board of Directors is composed of: Chairman Coad Shaw, Bank of Kearns; Vice Chairman Dave McDougal, McDougal Funeral Home; W. D. Martin, Kearns Pharmacy; Elmer Alston, Lockhart Co.; Reed Davis, Davis Realtor; Everett Raasch, Kearns Realty and Insurance, and Shelley Rolfe, Rolfes Furniture and Appliance. Members of the Industrial Committee are: Chairman W. G. Dawson, Bank of Kearns; Ed Hoopes, and Reed Davis. The Membership Committee is headed by Ray Ohms, Kearns Lanes; with other members Elmer Alston, Lockhart Co.; Charles Dumas, Albertsons Food Center; Cutherine Smith, F. W. Woolworth Co., and Mrs. C. Davis, Harmons. On the Civic Improvement Com (ex-offici- o) - mittee Kearns Kearns Marlin are Chairman W. D. Martin, Pharmacy; Elmer Raasch, and Realty and Insurance, ' W. Wool-wort- h F. Richenberg, Co. The Recreation has as its members: Farrell Lambert and Don Pierce. Sub-Committ- ee First Officers Chosen for Gourley PTA foundation meeting for the new David Gourley Elementary School of Kearns, was held April 29, at the West Kearns School for the purpose of electing PTA officers and for the passing of bylaws and other business matters pertaining to the function of starting a new school. Mrs. Cole Cutler, of the Granite School Council, installed the new officers to hold positions in the new David Gourley PTA. Mrs. Ernest Wessman has been elected as president for the group. To serve with her are Mrs. J. Grant Olsen, - vice president; Mr. Daryl Me Carty, principal, serves as second vice; Mrs. Charles D. Phelps, third vice; Mrs. Lamond J. Frost, secretary, and Mrs. Don L. Registration for youngsters who will attend the First grade at the South Kearns Elementary School , Kearns Stake Holds Conference Elder George Q. Morris of the Council of the Twelve and Elder Mark B. Garff of the General Welfare Committee, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints, were the feature speakers at the Keanrs Stake Quarterly Conference held Saturday and Sunday, May 2nd and 3rd. Other speakers were: Priest Michael DeCol and Miss Diane Key-sewho represented the youth of the Stake; President Merrill A. Nelson; Krant L. Linford; Sheldon Holmes; and Arthur Hunter, all of whom spoke at the Sunday sessions. 'On Saturday evening, in addition to Elder Garff, who spoke on the Church Welfare Plan, and Elder Morris, the following spoke to special subjects: Louis S. Leatham, Ralph Folker, and Max Jackman. There were 900 in attendance at the Sunday morning session and 700 at the Sunday afternoon meeting. Music for the conference meetings was under the direction of Doc Savage of the Stake High Council. The Kearns 6th .Ward, under the leadership of Ernest r, Chapel, with Bettsy Dutt at the organ, furnished two songs at the morning session. The Stake Primary children sang at the afternoon meeting, led by Mrs. Irene Rode-bacwith Kenneth Hansen and Mrs. Alden Adams at the console. The theme of the conference was the importance of teaching the youth of the Stake correct principles and the necessity for parents to live within their means and plan for the education, both secular and religious, of their children. k, A meeting of the Granger Elementary PTA was held April 27, this fall will be held Monday, May for the election of new officers for the ensuing year. Members to take over these offices are Mrs. Velo J. Barrett, as president Mrs. Homer E. Wade is 1st vice president; with Mr. R. C. Holmes, school principal, serving as 2nd vice president. Mrs. Fred Abernathy' holds the office of secretary, and treasurer is Mrs. James E. Larson. Mrs. Cole Cutler, president of the Granite School Council, was the installing officer. 13, at the school. The gift was given to Father Benvegnu for the services he has rendered in aiding the Girl Scouts of Kearns in their activities and projects for the year. Landscaping has began on the grounds of the Catholic Parish Hall, therefore it is hoped that this gift will aid in some way, and at the same time say thank you for all youve done. - ?! i , & KEARNS and Mrs. Lamond Frost Junior Gardeners Push Landscaping At South Kearns KEARNS The Kearns Jr. Garden Club of the South Kearns Elementary School held a meeting of the group Friday, May 1. at the South Kearns Elementary School in the room. Forty-fiv- e students were in attendance at the meeting. Their motto is Make Kearns The City Beautiful. Mrs. Thurlyn Christensen gave a lecture to the students on the preparation of soil for planting and how to plant and care for gourds. Following the meeting, the students were given gourd seeds to plant and care for themselves. Membership for the group is 25c, which is used to purchase plants and shrubs for the South Kearns School grounds. The Jr. Gardeners will elect their officers for the club annualy. Positions for the coming year will be held by Rosalinda Nickerson, president of the club. Jean Clark, 11, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Clark, will serve as 1st vice president. Second vice president is Nancy Geertson, 9, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Geertson. Secretary is Dorthy Greenland. Arlene Slade, 10, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Burton L. Slade, is treasurer. Making the presentation were: Mrs. Glora Parkin, district chairman y;' iJd&x t The Kearns American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a sale of plants Friday, May 8, at the Valley Shopping Center after v v,i -- for the Oquirrh District of the Girl Scouts; Claudia Jarvis, representing the Brownie Girl Scouts, and Loretta Whittle, representative of the Senior Girl Scouts. The plants are priced especially to fit the childrens pocket book. They will sell for 15c and up. There will also be some planters with floral arrangements.
