Kearns Town Council Will Plant Trees The Kearns Town Council have been able to acquire three spruce tress which will be planted near the business area and may be at the holiday season. It was a very unusual night for the girls, for Rita was having trouble with her boy friend Fred Dana. Also the same night Rita was giving a slumber party. Keith Garland and Harvey Smith were trying to make Rita think that Keith was a hero so that Rita would go with him. Fred Dana and LeRoy Doyle tried to make Rita believe that Fred was out with his cousin the night before. Yet they had aiiother mysterious prowler, Mr. Midnight. This act took place about 8 p.m. Officers And Board Picked for Year C Hopscotch Tourney The Walker Neal Snyder VFW Post No. 9322 and Auxiliary has been busy completing plans for the marble and hopscotch tournaments which are being conducted in each of the local schools. The winners in the school tournaments will be eligible to compete in the city tournament must take part in the school tournaments as only those winners will be iri the local playoff. Kearns also has the distinction of having the State VFW Marble and Hopscotch Tournament which will include winners from various cities throughout the state. This contest will be held on May 16, 1959. At the present time, the committee in charge of the event is waiting a reply from the Governor who has been issued an open challenge to play the first game of marbles in the tournament with our national field representative, Mr. Fred Twyman. Sloan, takes final bows. oys Allowed' Is Smash Success EM Students Students at Kearns Junior High School are going to manifest thei: interest in our technical world o' science by having a science fai: on April 13. Projects made by sci ence students will be exhibited tc the general student body of the school and to the public. Each project demonstates scientific principles in some particular area of science for the purpose of stimulating interest in our technical age. Also: the students involved in the projects are getting their first big experience in solving some scientific problem and are exhibiting their work with pride. Some of the projects that have been especially persued with enthusiasm have been: a high fidelity sound system made by John Homer, 7th grade; a rock collection showing the stages of the earths development by Terry Lee Chris-tiense7th grade; an experiment in growing plants' in chemicals without soil by Wally Lloyd, 7th grade; a complete skeletal system along with charts showing the functions of the human body by Dean Despain, 7th grade; plans for a new civic center in Salt Lake City by Gary Hunter, 7th grade; a device for showing how a camera and Number 15 secretary-manage- r. Newly elected members of the Board of Governors are: Coad Shaw, chairman; Dave McDougal, vice chairman; Elmer Ashton, W. D. Martin, Reed Davis, Shelley Rolff, and Everett Raasch. Mrs. Phillip McArdle, den mother of Den 7, Cub Scout Pack 244, sponsored by St. Francis Catholic Church, is still looking for 4 boys, from the south end of Kearns for membership in her Den. The third act took place at 12 midnight, time for the big feed, but the only trouble was all the food (sandwiches and pop) was missing." At the end of the play Rita and the girls find out that the real trouble was with Mr. Midnight. Keith and Harvey were the ones who stole the sandwiches and pop. Keiths last remark was, Alls fair in love and war. The cast was as follows: Mr. Midnight, Wesley Thomas; OBrien, Tyree Bruse; Fred Dana, Gordon Hatton; LeRoy Doyle, Jerry Timmins; Keith Garland, Len Jones; Harvey Smith, Buddy Whitney; Rita Baxter, Linda Higley; Jane Baxter, Judy Shakespeare; Victrola, Ranee Boley; Nada Owens, Leilani Pester; Patsy Farrel, Elaine Bosen; Belinda Elloit, Kris Motis, and Mrs. Dana, Bonnie Sandquist. The speech class started practicing the play about the first part of January. Approximately three weeks before the play went off, the speech class was at play rehearsal at 7 a.m. every morning. When the play went off, in spite of a few mistakes, and a cast that was scared to deaht, it was a big hit and a thrill for everyone who was able to attend. . Salt Lake Civil Service Comm. Notice of Examination Notice is hereby given that an examination will be held at fire station No. 1, 3690 So. Main Street, Salt Lake County, Utah, at 8 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 1959 for the purpose of qualifying eligible applicants for the position of Volunteer Fireman. Male residents of Salt Lake County over the age of 21 years are eligible to take the examination. Notice is given however, that for subsequent advancement in the Fire Department, the applicants age at the time of the first appointment must be between 21 and 35 years. Application forms may be obtained at the Fire Department Headquarters, 3690 So. Main Street, and must be returned to the Civil Service Commission not later than 7:30 p.m., April 14, 1959. |
