Show EBERT A. MORALES STAFF REPORTER A From left to right: Izial Toles, senior psychology major, and Chris Snellings, junior physics major, read through submissions to Westminster Confessions. Both Toles and Snellings are coming clean as administrators of the confessions page due to recent issues with the administration. Recent issues with the administration have made two Westminster Confessions admins decide to come clean and make the ultimate confession: expose their own identities to the whole student body. I have nothing more to hide, said Chris Snellings, junior physics major, admin and founder of Westminster Confessions. The student body might as well know who moderates and sees the posts. The other admin to come clean is Izial Toles (TJ), senior psychology major, who has been involved with the confessions page for two years. Toles said he joined in being an admin in order to take the load off of the founder, Snellings. He also said that him as an admin added diversity to the page. Each admin posts different things because they pay attention to different topics, Toles said. You need a team to run this page. Snellings started the confessions page back in Feb. 2013 because he said he felt that Westminster was missing some social media and some excitement. I did it just for the fun, Snellings said. I thought it was exciting. Westminster Confessions can cause quite a stir among students as confessions can range from being entertaining to more serious topics that lead to a lot of feverish debate. I think Westminster Confessions is great, but people take it too seriously, said Zach Kendrick, senior English major. The confessions page can be an outlet for students to be funny, CHECK US OUT AT FORUMFORTNIGHTLY.COM ask for help and spark meaningful debate among peers. With Westminster Confessions, people have a way to discuss about the greater student body from a place of protection, said Fathom Croteau, senior communication major. Sometimes the confessions are ways for students to reach out for opinions or to get help on certain topics. I think it is vital to our student interaction for us to feel safe in our interactions whether they are perceived as whiny or coming from a place of struggle, Croteau said. The confessions page at times may seem to be going in different directions with each passing day. Sometimes there are themed days and other times it can be a random collection of confessions. It is all over the place this year. Both Snellings and Toles agree that the page is doing very well, much more than expected and like that it has gained so much popularity. But both have noticed a change in topics on the confessions page. We have a lot more debates going on, much more of a debate page then a confessions page, Snellings said. While the page can be fun, some students on campus may see confessions as a negative outlet. Snellings and Toles both say that the confessions page can be positive but also negative at times. It gives a real view of the ON FACEBOOK FORUMFORTNIGHTLY student body and the atmosphere of the school, Toles said. The confessions page also shows diversity, according to Snellings. In the end, Toles said that the page shows the community on campus that not one is alone and that the students all stand together to support each other. I have never had the intent of giving the school a negative image, Snellings said. I knew what the consequences were as soon as I made the page, but that is why I filter the page. Snellings and Toles said they encourage students to keep submitting confessions in order to keep the page entertaining and to have meaningful conversations as well.
