A list of exclusions and limitations can be found on page 11 of the plan. Exclusions include certain prescription drugs, birth control and immunizations not required for treatment of a covered injury. 24-ho- ur Students registered for the 2007--08 academic school year are in the position to take advantage of health insurance through the American College Student Association (ACSA), which is designed for college and university students and their dependents. Many on campus seem unaware of this benefit offered to students. Senior Jared Hansen said, We have insurance here? when asked if he would be interested. Yes, insurance is available to all eligible students. According to the Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan found at www.acsa.com, ACSA considers all undergraduate students taking six or more hours and all graduate students taking three or more hours to receive health insurance. Students have two separate plans to choose from. The High Option Plan is more expensive than the Low Option Plan, but it has higher coverage and a lower deductible. Both plans range in price depending on age and number of dependents, but single students under 24 can expect to pay between $1149 and $675 with a deductible between $100 and $150. International students also have a plan available at $790 per year with a deductible of $100. A pamphlet comparing the plans can be found in the Office of Student Life in the Shaw Center. Coinsurance for services covers 80 percent except for "People need to be able to feel like they are taken care of." Junior Zack Hagberg Some students take advantage of coverage at their jobs. Instead of using the insurance available through Westminster, junior Jenifer Erekson participates in the benefits offered by her employer, Discover Financial Services. She has $45 deducted from her check each month and receives full coverage and minimal When asked about her insurance plan, she said, I love my insurance, but if I ever changed jobs to somewhere that didnt offer coverage, getting on my parents insurance wouldnt be an option. In those circumstances, ACSA can be a realistic alternative for those who can afford it. It is nice to know that its an option if we cant stay under our parents plans and one isnt available at work, junior Zak Hagberg said. Theyre there to help students have a voice in the campus and the community and to provide an avenue to be involved and broaden horizons. I see my role as making sure students are comfortable voicing their opinions to the administration. Im the liaison so the things students want to have happen do happen.
