Consulting Firm Begins Operation by Mark W. Pan Ion Career Services at Westminster College is beginning a new program that will give students the opportunity to do business consulting in the Salt Lake area. Esther Doherty, director of career services, says the program will focus on students learning to solve business related problems. Students will gain work experience in diversified areas and increase their business knowledge through the practice and development of consulting skills," Doherty said. Students will manage the entire business consulting firm operation. They will run it just like its their own business, says Doherty. Students from all academic areas are welcome to participate. The program is not restricted to business majors. Doherty hopes that diversity becomes one of the programs main selling points. Students will seek out small businesses and approach them with a written proposal. If the potential client likes what he sees, he is encouraged to contact the college. Students may work out a variety of scenarios according to Doherty. For example, a student may propose to set up a new bookkeeping system for a small business or possibly a market research study. work and education.
