Show Page 4 October 14, 1983 Forum Impeachment Threatens Judiciary Chief actions the Some complex budgetary Legislative Assemby bly (details of which are available in the Sept. 16, 1983 issue of the Forum ) have paved the road for possible impeachment proceedings against Jon Butler, chief justice of the ASWC Judiciary. According to Dave Neidert, Rules Committee chairman and business representative in Legislative Assembly, the ASWC Judiciary failed to notify the Legislative Assembly and its members concerning the budgetary actions. This, according to Neidert, turned the Legislative Assembly into the defendants in a budget controversy. not feel that the offense; that is, not notifying the Legislative Assembly, is an impeachable offense, however, Neidert added. I do Butler claims his job as Chief Justice of the Judiciary is to simply oversee meetings of the Judiciary, and he has no voting power except in the case of a tie. My opinion is that Judiciary members were correct in their original budgetary ruling, and that they properly upheld the Constitution, Butler said. Neidert said, In these situations, it is easy for one person to become the scapegoat, and Butler has become just that Butler said, My personal feeling is that I have a personality conflict with one of the members of the Legislative Assembly.
