Show October 14, 1983 Forum Page 2 Letters to the editor Communications Must Improve it is to have readers input this issue. Well check this week to see if we can work out a later deadline with the printer for editorial copy since the present deadline only allows less than 3 hours for response in the next weeks issue. How nice Thats what the Forum's about thats what all student government positions are about: to work with students schedules; to meet students needs; and to provide timely communications about efforts and problems which arise in the process. The Forum has tried, since the beginningof the school year, to obtain advance and complete information about activities planned by ASWC, but reliable information and details are often not available in advance. And we havent always contacted the people we should have. No one group or person is at fault, but all of us must start getting information out sooner or well continue with student editorial sections absent student editorials, and student con- certs absent students. The Forum will publish a newspaper on Oct. 28. If youre planning something for students between Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, leave a notice in the Forum offices in the basement of Shaw Center by 3 p.m., Thursday, Oct 20. The Forum Stajf 'OF Apathy Means an Audience of Twelve APATHY: according to Websters dictionary, apathy means lack of interest. To me, apathy also means twelve people showing up for a concert. On Sunday, October 2, ASWC held a concert; their first. The performer, James Lee Stanley is not a well known name in the t, concert business. He has opened for people like Linda Simon and Garfunkel, and Melissa Manchester. He has d also opened for several bands. Ron-stad- top-rate- His performance on October 2 was an outstanding one. He played the guitar and piano, told jokes, and really won the audience over. With such a good performance, why did 12 people attend? Im usi ng the excuse that the publicity was delayed because of a backup at the printers. Another valid one: $6 tickets were too high. On the night of the concert, 15 minutes before show time, announcements were made that the concert was free. That didnt work. Oh well, the people that attended had a lot of fun. On September 28, the cheerleaders sponsored a Sadie Hawkins dance. The date was changed one time from the original because several students requested that the 28th would be ASWC needs support! We also offer $1 off for faculty, staff, alumni, and most activities. al students, and free child care at We cant have successful events without participation. The people that turn out have fun, so that helps our morale anyway. To end on a positive note, I would like to thank everyone who made the all class party and the MS carnival successful. On Thursday, October 20, we will be having our first Fall Masquerade Party. It is being held at this time because Halloween is too close to the Homecoming Dance. Having this on a Thursand day will be good way to celebrate the ending of mid-termid-terbe for break. the Details will get everyone ready in near future. available the m m Watch the Forum for more information on upcoming events and, please, help us serve you. Julie Bell (WE WE HAVE better because of tests. It was changed, in hopes that more people would attend. The turn out was pretty good for a week night Attending this would have been a good study break. The band was great, refreshments were served and those attending had a great time. Resolution TO FOLLOW HIM. 1 Lives On behalf of the Westminster College of Salt Lake City Alumni Association, I would like to share some concerns regarding Homecoming 1983. TO DO LESS In the first place (and especially for David Neiderts information), the 1983 Homecoming Committee is comprised of current student representatives, along with representatives WOULD ONLY from the Alumni Associations Executive Council. The events are planned together not separately. UNDERMINE H15 In the second place, the Committee has worked very hard in trying to appease both student and Alumni concerns. Thats a LEADERSHIP' pretty tough job!! S The Alumni Association was pleased to receive the student petition and welcomes this kind of constructive input. We respond to constructive criticism not blatant or deplorable criticism, as stated in Legislative Assembly Resolution 1. We are all looking forward to Homecoming 83 and hope to SEE YOU THERE!! Punk Rock Helps Car Smash The ski club s "car smash at this years carnival provided the perfect backdrop for an outdoor evening performance by four local punk rock bands. I thought those guys dragged that car down there and smashed it as of show said some the part students who witnessed the two events. Someone who appeared to be the official asked The SAafcsvocalist to settle down or shut down, so their punk rock mission was apparently accomplished. fast-pace- d, Last but not least, a new band from Provo, Rebel Truce, made their debut performance. Their guitar player had such a gnarley sound that the beat and any melodic qualities were on the verge of being lost at any time, yet they held it together. Due to a small turnout the future of punk rock at Westminster appears to be on thin ice, but as any punk rocker might say, who cares? Paul Booth |
