Students visit and study in the Plaza Beautifying and repairing of Westminster facilities and grounds has cost the college approximately $300,000 during the past 18 months, according to Richard Brockmyer, director of Plant Operations. Potted flowers in Shaw Plaza were purchased by donations obtained by Irene Petersen, the wife of President James E. Petersen. Mrs. Petersen also donated $12,000 worth of window blinds to the school, according to Brockmyer; and a $5,000 lawn mower was contributed by the Womans Board. Maintenance crews, headed by Dick Miller, maintenance foreman, are now concentrating on replacing old and worn out windows with new ones, according to Brockmyer. Hogle and Carleson Halls were two buildings repaired this spring. An Energy Conservation Grant helped pay for a new heating system in Hogle Hall. Both dorms were upgraded to meet - Ct t - su . as fall weather lingers. fire codes by installation of smoke detectors and other safety devices Tile was replaced where needed in both dorms, and $800 was spent to fix the floor in Carlesons lobby. Repairs to ceilings, walls, and old tiles created three more rooms in Converse Hall. Stairways were redone in both Converse and Foster Halls. Maintenance crews did most of the work around Westminster, which included repairing the the stadium field. The sprinklers and of the tennis courts, wiring of the stadium, and work on the amphitheater were contracted out, along with the retarring of roofs on Malouf Hall, Shaw Center, and Payne Gymnasium, according to Claudia Marques, assistant to Brockmyer. New redwood picnic tables on the Shaw Plaza were paid for by the Westminster Business Students Associated, according to a recent newsletter prepared for business club members. re-seedi- ng ng |
