The release also indicates plans for a full return of music and selected varsity athletics. It estimates the expected reduction of administrative staff to involve approximately 13 positions. Reporters at the press conference asked how many faculty positions the new college expected to lose. Dr. Douglas W Steeples, dean of faculty, estimated the net loss at 4 to 7 faculty positions after additions and losses of faculty members. Steeples told reporters the college expected to have curriculum changes finalized for awarding of new faculty contracts between March 1 and March 15. Phi Eta Sigma is a national, freshman honor society that recognizes high scholastic achievement of freshmen in all academic majors. To be eligible for initiation into the Westminster Chapter of Phi Eta Sigma, a student has to receive a 3.5 GPA in one semester of hisher freshman year at Westminster. Since Westminster has not previously had a chapter, all students (freshmen through seniors) who received a 3.5 GPA one semester as a freshman are eligible to join Phi Eta Sigma. The first meeting to discuss eligibility, elect officers, and collect membership dues of $7, will be held Wednesday, February 2, at 7 p.m., in the Presidents Dining Room. It is important that eligible students attend, since it is the only meeting before the initiation banquet.
