Show October 15, 1982 Forum Page Shaw Center Board You can get involved with the Shaw Center Board, a body of students who help sponsor and coordinate major school activities. Currently, the Board has 13 members, including the vice presidents of the dorms. Some events the Board coordinates include the All Class Party, Homecoming, the 10K Run, Founders Week, major dances, Halloween activities and free movies. Duties involve planning, selling tickets, making posters, working the door for dances, clean-u- p duty and, in general, making sure all the details are taken care of so everyone will have a good time. We can never have enough students as chairwoman. members, said Julie Bell, We like people who have had some experience in coordinating activities, but the major qualification is the desire to volunteer yourself for activities. Alicia Dechart was appointed to the Board last May and is serving as chairwoman. She is in charge of calling and chairing the meetings of the Board. Other members of the Board are: Julie Brubaker, Brenda Carlisle, Leigh Ann Chapman, Ruth Coombs, Michelle Dye, Tammy Ingersoll, Debbie Oja, Paulette Rodriguez, Dave Russell, Teri Schryer and Robert Schoor. Bell encouraged men to apply for membership on the Board. She said they have a lot of good ideas and the Board needs them now. Betty Christensen Budget Proposal and Middle East Spark Noon Seminars Marjorie Childs, an ERA supporter, and Michael Stathis, Political Science teaching fellow at the University of Utah, were guest speakers for Noon Seminars on September 22 and 29. Mrs. Childs spoke on the topic of equality for all male under the law. chauvinist pig shouting feminists are sometimes visualized when the ERA is mentioned. Mrs. Childs explained the purpose and intent of the amendment as she briefly reviewed her book, Fabric of ERA. Michael Stathis addressed the current issues in the Middle East. After presenting his views on the area, including a historical perspective, he opened the floor to questions. The audience was concerned about possible peace solutions and basic political and theological differences between the people of the Picket-carryin- bra-burni- g, region. According to Allison Haegen, a Westminister student, the Noon Seminar program is a good learning experience for students and faculty.
