Friday, October 8th 0 Recently, I have heard a variety, of views and opinions about Westminster College heritage and the traditions we carry with us today. A great deal of information I have collected is in conflict. There is considerable discussion going on right now in response to the name change of the student newspaper and the naming of the Varsity Soccer team. Several students and Westminster community members say that Parsons no longer represent the personality of the student body or the College. They explain that we have not been associated with the minister image for a long time. Dear Friends; Welcome or welcome back to Westminster College! By now I have had the opportunity to meet many of you new students, staff and faculty and, I can say 1 am quite pleased with the new energy that seems to abound at the College this Fall. As the Alumni President, I have experienced many good times and many rough times during the past ten years . . . but with all of that collective experience and insight, I can say it looks as if this is going to be one of the best years the College has had public image. Westminster College has a history of being a survivor. Changes being made are made not only with the survival of the College in mind, but to demonstrate to potential students, employees, and donors that the College is stable, consistent, dependable. In subsequent issues, this column will present the heritage of Westminster College in an effort to clarify our true heritage and tradition. Mike Black in some time. Fall is the time to celebrate Homecoming at Westminster, and this year the Alumni Association has gone to great lengths to ensure the week of activities will be both diverse and action packed . . . there will be something of interest for everyone, from free daily movies to dances, noon seminars and the ever so popular casino night, to the elegant Homecoming dinner and a dance. Alumni from all over the U.S. will be joining us faces on during the week, so if you see a lot of new back and help them find campus, welcome the alumns their way ( the College has changed a lot since some of our alumns have been on campus). I encourage ail of you to consider coming to the it s a deal for all the formal Homecoming dinner and dancing, and it will be great great food and drink fun to mingle with some of the more notable characters and supporters of Westminster College. Also, the Homecoming banquet will be my last official function as the President of the Alumni. Elvie Charles Nelson, a recent student body president at Westminster will be the new president, and I encourage all of you to take Homecoming Week.
