Show Forum Page 6 AUCTION TOPS OFF SUMMER While the majority of West' minsterites sojourned to their respective homes to bask in the summer sun, our campus remained a center of activity. For instance, 24 people, headed by Producer Scott (Scoot) Snow and Director Dick Shepherd, rounded up their talents to deliver the play Beauty and the Beast by Luicine Fox. The idea, conceived in January 1982, by Shepherd and Snow, was born in April. From there the contribution of materials from fourteen local merchants and students energies of May-terbrought forth the production. Beauty and the Beast showed in three locations throughout July including two performances at Courage Theatre. Others to reap the benefit of our campus use were all those involved with the intensive Eng- September cess of this event, stated Public Relations Director Alan Hanline. The program hopes to double in numbers by January and expects to reach 100 foreign students and businessmen by next Septem ber. Westminster College was also the site of a fund raising auction held on the sixth of August in the Shaw Center. Irene Petersen, wife of President Petersen, was the energy and inspiration behind the sue- - Fifty-fo- ur thousand dollars was raised that evening including $26,250 from a Mercedes donated by the wife of the late George S. Eccles. Among the items donated by 60 individuals and businesses were a mink, diamond jewelry, a silver tea set, oil paintings and a two-wee- k vacation at a British castle. The auction followed a dinner presented by members of the full-leng- th faculty, alumni, and students. Among those sitting at the Super Celebrity Table were Governor and Mrs. Scott M. Matheson, Police Chief E. H. (Bud) Willoughby, and Mrs. George S. Eccles. i, Radio personality, Tom served as master of ceremonies and Andy Dost as auctioneer. Next years auction hopes to see comedian George Bums, while a 1980 Mercedes station wagon Bar-ber- 17, 1982 (already donated) is auctioned off to willing participants. While all these activities whisked through campus, summer residents searched and found ways to battle the boredom. So if you ever find yourself wondering how to have homemade summer fun in Salt Lake City, just ask someone who stayed around campus in the ofbseason. RESIDENT PROGRAM CONTINUES Westminster College announced the establishment of a Distin- guished Residents Program, June 1979. The purpose is to complement and enrich the academic program of the College, by hosting a series of distinguished visitors on the Campus for a week residency.
