Rodriguez has lived in San Diego for the last ten years where he coached a team that won nine out of ten champion' ships. Rodriguez, his wife and their two sons moved to Utah after he was transferred by the publishing company he works for. Rodriguez had retired from coaching, but the Senior Soccer League of Utah encouraged him to continue coaching. Westminster contacted the league in search of a head coach. CojJi RoJrigwfZ brings a winning stylr to VVrstminstrr. The league recommended Rodriguez and, after being interviewed by school officials, Rodriguez was hired. Rodriguez brings with him several championships as well as national acclaim for coaching. Rodriguez has coached a U.S. team and toured Poland, Germany and Holland. He has been voted California Coach of the Year and Western States Coach of the Year. Rodriguez believes that an education and athletics go hand in hand and is confident about the coming year. By eleven, all halls were bare. And by twelve all lights (well almost all) were out. Little did anyone realize that while most of the sweet, young, innocent freshmen slumbered peacefully in their "THEY" thunderously rushed down each hall, awakening each A and every freshman. Dragging the struggling creatures from their beds and forcing them down to d Marimon Lounge, "THEY to direct a pajama fashion pro-cede- show. When things began to calm down and the freshmen thought they were going back to the security of their beds, someone mentioned a tour. A special tour. Being blindfolded was one thing, but traipsing around the campus blindfolded and in nightgowns was something else. Can you imagine what the neighbors A combination of good leadership, players ability and fans support makes this season one to look forward to. Paulette Rodriguez thought? uintmiuJ m jugr 4 . . . STUDENT LOUNGE REFRESHED The old Ghetto has changed. Westminster students and officers revitalized it this summer, adding video games and snack machines to the existing equipment of large color TV and stereo, pool table and dart board. Brenda Carlisle, Howard Carter and Debbie Jenkins and her husband devoted time and energy this summer to giving the room and hallway a badly needed coat of fresh white paint. Jenkins made most of the arrangements for the new equipment and Carlisle arranged to have the paint donated to the school. It is hoped students will use and enjoy the facility. Food and drink are welcome in the lounge with the exception of alcoholic beverages. According to Mike Black, student body president, the student lounge has been in existence for many years and has featured special entertainment such as small bands and singing groups and movies, yet for the past couple of years it has not been used to capacity. Black stated that the school will use its share of the profits from the machines to upgrade the lounge and buy more game room equipment. It is hoped that these improvements will entice more students to use the lounge by giving them something to do on campus. "If students show an interest in using the lounge, Black said, the school would be justified in spending more time and money on it. Black emphasized that the lounge and other activities are for all students, whether living on or off campus, and for students. He also encouraged faculty, staff and administration to participate in non-traditio- the school activities. The student lounge is downstairs in the Shaw Center. Hours have not been established yet, but will be based on student use and desire. Three managers have been hired to supervise and plan activities for the lounge and to secure the facilities. They plan to arrange tournaments and other activities for those interested. Other plans include a large screen and projector type TV which will show popular movies. This will replace the old 16 mm system presently used. A contest to rename the lounge is in the planning stages. Stu- dents interested should begin thinking up new names that students could identify with. Details of the contest will be forthcoming. Betty Christensen PHOTO LAB IDEAS DEVELOPING If Student Body President Mike Black and Dr. Gordon Cheesewright get their wish, the old photography lab, located in the basement of the Shaw Center, may be in line for a fresh new look. Working in conjunction with Richard Brockmyer, the director of plant operations and campus life, they hope to make some moderate changes allowing the present facility to more adequately address the students needs. According to Brockmeyer, "Nothings been decided on for sure yet, but we might make it into two darkrooms; one for the Forum and one for the Etosian. Says Mike Black, Its just too small. The surroundings are dismal, with two separate work work areas, but you now have to go through one to get to the other. Wed like to change that. By adding an additional door and rearranging some drains and ventilation, they could change the presently cramped quarters into "two independent dark rooms said Black. In this way, students could work on the Forum without disturbing an Etosian (the College yearbook) project. Mr. Brockmeyer emphasized the proposed changes involve only the physical outlay of the facility and do not cover new equipment purchases. The present structure has been in operation for, at least four to six years according to Mike Black. He further related that this years budget will instaff for the clude a part-tim- e darkroom, but was not sure about specifics in that regard. "Last years budget was $1,700 for wages and materials, he said. This year, the darkroom is under the same budget heading as the all newspaper and yearbook three receiving funds from the A.S.W.C. (Associated Students of Westminster College). Just how much, if any, money will be allotted this worthy project is still unkown. However, according to Black, "The proposal is worth looking at closely. The proposed additions would still allow only processing and enlargement of black and white film, but the space gained would streamline the operation, thus allowing deadlines and commitments to be met in a much more timely fashion. Stay tuned for further updates. "...
