The tournament is sponsored by the Union Pacific Railroad, ran over three complete weekends, with 138 teams entered and hundreds of individual bowlers. Whal walked off with the scratch prize by posting a 2102 total for the nine games he rolled in the meet. He easily won the singles, scratch prize with a three-gam- e series of 730, took the singles handicap honors with 754; and teamed with Elmer Hamilton of Helper to take the doubles title with a 1422 score. Whal had his best three-gam- e series in the singles competition, posting scratch games of 246,257 and 227. He picked up his high game of the meet, a 278 in the first game of the doubles, following this with games of 223 and 222 in & at Softball Season PTC SPORTS! ts Big Season Opening Specials Little Leaaue Baseball Glove this event. The H.T.H. Racing team of Helper, which Wahl was a member of in the tournament, finished third in team competition. The team consisted of Mike Fromm, Bill Nielsen, Hamilton, Ken Funk and Wahl, all of Helper. Whals three games in the team event were 236, 235 and 178 to give him an average of 233 for the nine games he rolled in the tournament. Wahl is a disabled veteran of the Vietnam war and first began blowling as a junior high school youngster when the Bonnie Lanes were first opened years ago. He recovered from serious wounds sustained in the Far East conflict, spent many months undergoing surgery after surgery in an Army hospital in Denver before coming back to Helper for a long slow recovery. He has been employed at the Bonnie Lanes during the past two years and from the manner in which he stormed through the recent Ogden tournament, he has apparently won his fight to regain his health and is eyeing an opportunity to turn pro in the bowling ranks.
