April 30. 0 Hanksville By Barbara Ekker The Hanksville Medical Clinic Board of Directors met early Friday morning with Richard McDermott, Director of Utah Rural Medical Clinics. Mrs. Carolyn Hatch and daughter, Kori Lynn, her sister, Ruth Ann Reay, spent last weekend in St. George visiting old college friends who had arrived from Arizona for the reunion. Leon D. Cook, of Sandwich, 111. spent a few days in Hanksville visiting older residents. Mr. Cook, a Green former River resident, .recalls that his father, Irvine Cook and an uncle, Frank Cook, drove the first car, a Reo, across the desert into Hanksville in 1908. Their reasons was to survey out a site for a dam on the Fremont River. May Friendship Cruise set for May 25-2- 6 The 16th annual Friendship Cruise, a mild river running expedition on the Green and Colorado rivers, will begin with registration in Green River on May 25 until noon on May 26. Boaters will follow a 192-mi- le course that meanders through rock spires, cliffs of Moki dwellings and green bottoms from Green River State Park to Moab. The waters take boaters past remnants of the Butch Cassidy outlaw days, and over part of the historical John Wesley Powell expedition course, to name a few. for the cruise will be Accomodations two-da- y provided by members of the Canyon Country River Marathon Association, a corporation from Moab and Green River. Gasoline and concessions are placed at strategic points along the two rivers. A steak fry and western dance, sponsored by the Moab Jaycees, will be held at the halfway point Grand County Jeep Posse and the LDS Church will non-prof- it transportation of cars and boat trailers from Green River to Moab and will assist with launching and docking procedures at the two city s boat docks.
