H 4-- H sets Genealogy Workshops, August Brigham Young Universitys Conferences and Workshops will host a Genealogy and Family History Seminar August All sessions will be held at the BYU Conference Center. Seminar workshops have been designed for the beginning, intermediate and advanced student of genealogy and will cover detailed information on researching both U.S. and international ancestry. Personal as well as family histones will be covered and a workshop for helping preteens become interested in and prepare genealogical records is also available. Fees are $60 for a six hour computer course; $1 10 for the three day 5-- Helen Shaw, and President Lecon Theme of this years program is Pride in the U.S.A. , An opening number and a physical fitness routine will be presented to patriotic music. Miss Utah will entertain vocally and at the piano. Everyone is invited to attend Saturday, July 18, at 8 p.m. at South Sevier High School Auditorium. For those who have difficulty reading unusual records there will be a workshop that vies tips on reading early and foreign handwriting. A computer software class is also available and will include information on the 25 freeware, shareware and commercial programs available. For more information, contact Valley Camp mine is not shutting doors Recent layoffs at Valley Camp Mine are temporary, according to Walt Wright, mine spokesman. Write said that 26 union employees and seven salaried people had been laid off, but stressed that the company has no intention of shutting the mine down. Four un ion people and seven salaried employees are still at work at the mine. Wright said the company expects to call back the idled employees once coal contracts have been obtained. Valley Camp opened in 1976. It experienced a major force reduction in 1983, and again in January 1986, when 102 coal miners and 15 salaried employees were laid off. After the 1986 layoff, employees were recalled in about a month. Before the current layoff, only 30 union workers and 14 salaried employees were working the mine. Or- gan and Harp. The annual pageant will officially open July 24th activities in Monroe. Seven young women will compete for the title. Included in the competition are academic achievement, physical fitness, evening gown modeling, photogenic, interview, and talent competition. Morgan Manwill celebrated her First Birthday July 2, 1992. Tom is a 1987 graduate of Gunnison Valley High School, and four year Seminary graduate. He was acuve in athletics, and served a two year mission for the LDS Church in Colombia, Barranquilla South America. He has been enrolled at UVCC for the past year and a half. The couple plans a July 21, 1992 wedding in the Manti LDS Temple. They will make their home in Rangely, Colorado, until May of 1993. If youd like to step back in time and learn about Utahs pioneers, as well as participate in fun activities, you wont want tomissPioneerTrail State Parks annual Pioneer Days celebration, July 22 - 26. Festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the days noted. At least 10 of Old Deserets pioneer homes will be open each day of the celebration. Trained volunteers dressed in pioneer clothing act out roles of the people who once lived or worked in the various dwellings and by demonstrations pioneer crafts. Included in the pioneer craft demonstrations will be ice cream making, butler making, natural dying and sewing on a treadle sewing machine. Covered wagon rides are available. Children can also have fun participating in pioneer games. As you tour the towns streets you may come across Star and Bright, the towns two oxen. You will also learn about Utahs earliest settlers - its Native Americans who will have an encampment nearby. |
