The federal Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) program employs hundreds of youth, ages 15 to 21 in Utah during an 8 to 10 week period each summer. Worksites include public facilities, public non profit agencies such as schools, libraries, hospitals, cities, counties, social agencies, etc. Most youth will work 32 hours per week, at one work site, being reimbursed by the federal government. Some of the youth will spend half of their work day reviewing basic skills to help them finish high school. Screening in the Sevier county area will be held in Richfield, on Saturday June 17, at the Senior Citizen Center, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to eli- gible in the Youth Tryout Employment Program. On this program they work with employers who hire them permanently after the summer if their performance has been satisfactory. The Summer Youth Jobs will give the young people experience and pride of earning and managing their own money, experience m a read day to day work setting, and specific skills. FISH FREE ON JUNE 10 Take a Kid Fishing! Take a kid fishing! That is this years theme for Free Fishing Day, which occurs in Utah on June 10. On June 10 only, residents or nonresidents can fish without purchasing a fishing license. In addition to the free fishing day, the Utah State parks and Recreation and Forest Service are offering special programs throughout the week. Remember though that on Free Fishing Day, all other regulations apply, so before heading for that favorite fishing hole, be sure to get a copy of the fishing proclamation so Phone News Items 529-783- you can be aware of special rules, limits, closed areas, etc. Many of the local sporting goods dealers will also be offering special sales and discounts for Free Fishing Day. Last year Utahs streams, rivers and lakes were full of people enjoying one of the states best resources. All events are for men, women and children, and are under the direction of the High Uintah Mountain Men. Only black powder weapons are allowed, and firrearms should represent theperiod of the Mountain men, 1820 to 1850. Participants are encouraged to dress in clothing of the period. A full slate of events are planned. The major event is a three day professional PRCA Rodeo which will take place June 22, 23, and 24 at 8 p.m. each evening. All rodeo fans are invited to join us in Moab in June for some great rodeo action. Palisades Ladies Golf The Palisades Ladies Golf Team placed first at the Palisades Golf course on May 18th and Challenged East Bay. YOUNG WOMEN RECEIVE RECOGNITION Three young women from the Salina 4th Ward received their Young Women Recognition Awards. This award is equal to the Eagle Scout Award that is presented to young men. Brent Rock. Teachers still need to get their principals approval, but from that point on, the process is electronic. After the trip, all the facts are filed for information on a written report. This will now allow a trip by trip update of the transportation budgets. It will also help coordinate trips taken to the same destination by two or three different schools, such as conventions, or regional competition. Computerizing the transportation requests and reports is part of the ongoi ng effort to standardize and make accountable each program. During the year, other programs have gone through a fine tuning process, according to Business Administrator Sam Ware. Tim Macneil 31, SLC, and Lyn Lewis, 33, West Valley City were arrested by officers with the Garfield Kane Special Task Force on a varid ety of charges.
