The Nevin Concert company, the first number of the Lyceum course for this year, will present a concert here tonight. This company takes for the foundation of its t program representative compositions of the great American composer, Ethelbert Nevin. The four members of the Nevin Company are Miss Irene Taylor, cellist and manager of the company; Miss Olive Pierce, violinist; Miss Frances Northam, pianist and mezzo soloist; Miss Ruth Perrin, impersonator. Following these two opening numbers will be four other entertainments. December 4, Roscoe Stott, the distinguished writer and impersonative lecturer, will discuss Dying on Third;" January 13, Chester M. Sanford will lecture on Failures of the Misfits;" late in February, Miss Helen Waggoner, a dramatic interpreter, will present a panorama of sketches ; and hnpersonative sometime in February or March the local high school will stage a vaudeville as the last number of the course. The Lyceum course just outlined for Salina this year is the most expensive and best that Salina has ever had in a series of nine courses. Since its organization in 1914 the Lyceum has paid for itself, until the last two years of "hard times when the singers of the Redpath contracts have had to pay no small deficit. However, these same boosters saw fit to sign up once more for even a better and more expensive course. From all indications the Lyceum course will go over big this year, for many season tickets nave already been sold. . The commemoration of Armistice day, wihch was celebrated Wednesday of this week by the Ladies Literary and Civics club proved one of the big events of the early fall. The arrangement to observe Armistice day instead of the regular program was decided upon at a recent meeting of the members. And, too, the public had the pleasure of enjoying the program and festivities and throughout the affair was a crowning success and reflects credit obi the members of the organization. Not only were the guests treated to a splendid program of addresses and songs, but refreshing uncheon was served following the exercises. The program was typical of Armistice day and was . ng .... story-tellin- lay - . .... Laz-enb- ' Is n, - . , . re-op- en , 1 1 cam-oaig- , 1 upper-clessme- . |
