Show THE Volume 5. Salina, Utah, Saturday July Young Matron Dies Kinema Manager Is After Short lllnesss Arranging Big Treat Mrs. Margaret Searle, wife of Allen Searle, and who has been residing at Loss Creek for the past year, died at the family home Tuesday morning shortly after six oclock. Mrs. Searle, though not having been confined to her bed, had been unwell for several weeks. Sunday she visited the Salina hospital for adviee and Monday she was with friends at Salina. She returned to her home and at midnight was stricken and before medical aid could reach her she passed away. Congestion of the brain is given as the cause of death. The deceased was born at Fremont, Utah, August 10, 1890, and had she lived until the 10th of August, would have been 32 years of age. With her husband and family she came to this valley about a year ago, settling on a farm in the Loss Creek district, where they since resided. The death of the mother was a severe shock to the family and the many friends and her untimely death will be mourned by all. Mrs. Searle is survived by her grief stricken husband and seven children as follows: Lowell, Verda, Nina, Nelda, Ellen, Lottie and Thomas, also by her mother, Mrs. Annie Taylor, of Fremont, and one Manager A. J. Christensen of the Kinema picture house is preparing an exceptional treat for his patrons here and to this end is arranging for a special feature next Thursday, July 20. At that time Mr. Christensen will be ready to exhibit the many local scenes that have been taken at Salina, Aurora and Redmond, showing street scenes, business houses, individuals and many other interesting and laughable pictures. Today a coterie of protographers are combing the town and are taking the pictures of all babies. The pictures will be shown next Thursday, along with the other show, and prizes will be awarded the most handsome baby by judges to be selected later. The special feature being arranged by Manager Christensen promises to be decidedly interesting and those wishing to see themselves in local movies will be afforded the opportunity next Thursday night. Besides giving the exhibition here Mr. Christensen will exhibit them at Redmand, Aurora and Centerfield. Local pictures of the towns named will also be shown on the screen. brother. The remains wrere brought to Salina and later shipped to Fremont by auto truck. Burial services were held Thursday afternoon of this week. City Will Pave SUN at Important Corner In order to give a wider space at the intersection of Main and State streets when the paving through Salina is done, the members of the city council at a special meeting last Saturday evening voted to stand the cost of the paving. This action on the part of the city council was due to the fact that the street at this point is narrow and inasmuch as the strip to be laid is only eighteen feet it would prove too narrow and there would be an element of danger in making the turn at the corner. In a recent communication from the office of Secretary of State Crockett, attention is called to the observance of the headlight law on cars. Many car owners, says Mr. Crockett, seem to be under the impression that this law is no longer in operation, but such is not the case. Ihis official calls upon all local officers to enforce this law wherever they find it being violated. This law says the same authority was enacted for the safety of the people, and it is recognized as being one of the best laws that we have in helping prevent accidents at night from the glare of headlights. Let every officer throughout the state put foith their best efforts in having every car owner comply with its provisions. RELIEF SOCIETY PROGRAM. Nuxnbai 6 1922 15 Big Salt Deposit Is Many Improvements On the Road of Good Intentions for High Opened Near Salina Improvements at the Salina high school for the year will consist of 100 new steel lockers for the students, a modem shower hath for girls, more m w seats in the study room, more radiators in the assembly room and the roof of the building will have a new coat of paint. This was the decision of the county school board on their tour of inspection last Monday. Not only will the local high school receive the new and needed additions, but, especial praise was given for the neatness and well kept condition of the rooms and building and grounds. The' visit by the members of the Noith Sevier school board to the several schools in the district was highly gratifying and plans are being made to increase the efficiency of all the schools during the- coming winter term. All of the buildings in the school district were visited, according to Dr. Maigaret A'. Fleece, the board member from Salina. At Aurora the intei ior of the school building there will be thoroughly renovated and the interior throughout will be painted. What promises to develop into one of the biggest salt mines in the western territory has just recently been uncovered by Alford Jensen at the mouth of Salina canyon. Mr. Jensen, who is well known throughout this section, ha been doing considerable work at the salt mine and as a result an immense body has been disclosed. Not only has an immense deposit been uncovered but the glade and quality is equal to any yet discovered in the state. Mr. Jensen announced thaf. he would at once make arrangements to open the new discovery on an extensive scale and to this end modem machinery and all the necessaiy equipment will be installed to the salt. Mining the product will be comparatively easy and inasmuch as the property is only three miles from the railroad transportation facilities to that point will be an easy matter. When the property is at the full production stage, Mr. Jensen will be able to supply the local demands as well as the markets throughout the state with a high class product. The discovery and proposed development and shipment will add another industry to Salina and the acquisition will prove a . big benefit through many sources. Planned - VANDALS DESTROY SIGNS ALONG 0. 0. THE P. P. Just when the arduous task of HIGHWAY ROUTE they had orders to paint out marks which he, Mr. McMullen, had placed and guard rails of on the end pu.-lthe bridges. No information could be gained as to who obliterated the painting on the posts and signs at railroad crossings and junctional en- gineering the route of the Tikes Ocean highway and Peak Ocean-t- o when the signs directing transcontinental tourists the shortest route from coast to coast was done, some wandal, without the least iota .of principle, obliterates the signs, or a portion of those between Salina and Emery. This was the information received here this week. The letter addressed to Dr. A. J. Lewis, one of the big boosters of this section in having the highway routed through Salina canyon and on the south connecting with the Arrowhead Trail at Cove Fort, the information is given to the effect that all the posts which had been set along the road between Salina and Emery had been removed and entirely done away with. Mr. McMullen, who has been painting the signs and placing them at convenient places for the direction of the travelers, completed the work between Salina and Emery and then continued the work as far as Cove Fort. He had planned to go over the wrork, giving the signs another coal of paint. When he started on the work east of the city he found all the signs obliterated and posts removed In reporting the incident to Hale D. Judson, general manager pf the association at Saint Joseph, Mr. McMullen reported that woikmen along the route, when questioned, stated ALLRED RECOVERS. s The cost of establishing the route and signing it has entailed a great cost to the association and the act, by whomever it was done, will sure If the work was ci eat e bitterness. done by any official, the official will be big enough to let it be known. If it was dope by vandals, they should be hunted down and be made to suffer. It is up to the backers of this route and the good citizens of Utah to make an investigation of the infamous act and when the guilty ones are found they tlpjuld be shown up By Small Margin Sun--da- their true light. Officials of the association in the east who have been appraised of the dirty work are at a loss to understand why the act was done and state further that if it is to continue there is little use to ristejicd the signs. Notwithstanding the fact that the signs of the P. P. O. O. have been destroyed fiom this city as far as The Relief Society has arranged an interesting meeting to be held at the Second Ward chapel next Monday afternoon. Mrs. C. E.
