THIS SPACE Ernest Lyons, Editor of the Stuart News in Florida, made a proposal recently to change the well known slogan Take a boy fishing to 'Make all statesmen go fishing. His proposal is based on the following rationale, as expounded (in part) by Editor Lyons: The trouble with world leaders Is that they have to claw their way to the top, knocking down the opposition and when they're at the peak of the heap theres nobody left to fight but each other. 'Everybody would sleep better nights If they knew thatBreshnev was trout fishing in the Urals, Kosygin fishing for sturgeon In the Volga, Gromyko trying to catch pike through a hole in the ice on a Siberian lake and Dick Nixon trolling for barracuda in the Keys. 'What a sigh of relief would go up If the Kremlin and the White House tacked Gone Fishing on their front doors on the same day 'We would not need to worry about Mao exploding a bigger thermonuclear bomb any day he was fishing on the Yangtze. As long as the big shots were angling, no loud noises would be allowed to scare the fish. Maybe peace would come. The first signs of it would be letters home from Vietnam like: Dear Mom and Pop, you can forget about that box of split shot, No. 6 hooks and roll of mono. I traded off a dozen old swivels and a couple of beat-u- p plugs to. a Viet Cong at the DMZ Line yesterday for everything I need'. BY THE PUBLISHER CONTRIBUTED AS A PU8LIC SERVICE were from three to six inches in length when stocked. In other areas this fish reaches a weight of over 30 pounds and a length of over 40 inches, but they are considered a fish easy to catch and may be easily overfished. Northern pike are scrappy fish, but their bony structure influences their edibility and thus are considered only fair table food. At the present time, the Division of Fish and Game does not plan to introduce this species into other waters, but will gather biological data on the population now in Redmond Lake.
