Show UTAH COUNTY DEMOCRAT, HOUSE SHOW EDITION SHERMAN BELL (42840). Probably the handsomest and best bred trotting stallion in Utah is Sherman Bell, owned by Smoot & Smoot of Provo. He was foaled at the farm of C. Y. WilIllinois, in liams, (ialesburg, May, 1903, where his sire was used as an Electioneer cross upon the Wilkes mares by Jay Bird and Allerton. Mr. Williams is a successful breeder and his care is shown in the breeding of Sherman Bell by crossing a record son of Electioneer on a record daughter of Jay Bird. In Sherman J Jells pedigree, the dams for six generations have records or have produced speed, while on the sires side he is a grandson of the great Electioneer, and it is the grandsons as well as the sons of Electioneer that made Palo Alto farm famous as a nursery for champions. Belsire (2:18), the sire of Sherman Bell, is the fastest son of Electioneer, and the champion dam, Beautiful Bells (2:29), and is himself the sire of thirteen with records from 2:09 to 2:30. Jay Bird, who sired the dam of Sherman Bell, ranks high among the Wilkes horses as a sire of speed through both his sons and daughters. The second dam has produced speed and is a daughter of the $51,000 Anteeo (2: 161)). the greatest Electioneer brood mare sire. The next two dams arc great brood mares of Wilkes blood, while the fifth dam is also a' great brood mare of the Mor- gan stock. In the list of great sires of speed for 1907 were two full brothers of Belsire, and a full brother was champion sire of speed in 1906. Tn that list of 1607 were also four grandsons of Electioneer, three of which were bred like Sherman Bell. His speed inheritance is so good that several flattering offers have been Hambietonian 10 sire of 40 in 2:30, including Dexter Electioneer . by Abdallah I sire of in- - 3 2:174 sons sired 125 over icon ....
