Show PAG! grigbaff SPARK PLUGS Aeronautics By Building Model Planes When sixth grade students of1 the Central school came to the chapter on How Do Airplanes Fly In their science book, they took the airplane by the aileron and, with the help of their tackled the problem of learning terms, air dynamics, weight distribution, and the history of aviation with enthusiasm. It wasnt like learning Latin or trigonometry, but was a ''mighty pleasant course the students unanimously agreed. After witnessing two movies, one on how light airplanes are manufactured and the other on the growth of airplane designing, the students bought model airplane sets with all the plans and materials and went to work to build their own. So rather than handling the students a long list of aeronautical terms to learn to spell and understand, the students learned them the easy way assimilating them as a part of the pleasant task of building model airplanes. According t o Mr. Marble, teacher of one of the classes, it Isnt a bit uncommon to hear the students speak of diahedral, ailerons, or gravitational pull with the nonchalance of speaking of kites and marbles. Not only were the polysyllabic words absorbed by the students, but they learned mathe- - PAGE SIX SOX ELDER JOURNAL 1 Points The Way To These Buys In Sundries DOLLAR ONLY DAY $5.95 Mamma Doll, only $ .98 Aquaplane, only $2.98 . . 49c $3.98 Mechanical Train $1.99 $2.15 Kamkap'sCash Register $1.59 Suzy Goose House Cleaning Set $1.09 . . 79c 98c 54c $ .69 Rubber Door Mat, 1 14 Vi"x 172" 2 for $1 2 for $1 lb. According to Dougles Gunderson, principal of the Central school one of the fathers of the students called him on the phone and asked if it was real' ly necessary that his son buy the miniature gas motor. After all of the planes are complete students will hold a contest to see whose plane will fly the longest disance or stay in the air the longest As a part of the study of aeronautics, the class will make a tour of the Brigham City airport where they will have Johnny Weir, manager, talk to them on aircraft and airport management. They will see for themselves how the pilot controls the plane, the u.se of the instruments on the control panel, what works the ailerons, rudder and fin. And last but not least they will learn how the airport serves the community. Also, as a part of the class, professional models have been brought in and their performances and construction demonstrated by the builders. frfdaT- ntermountain ndian School 29c . ; $ .59 Baby Pants Extinguisher BUY IT IN I , $1.98 Buddy Trucks $1.09 Buddy Trucks . i ELDi lOX Central School Students Learn About, Outboari ALL SIZES MOTOR Formerly . for iationally CO. 101-95- ed RAVtf DRUGGIST Caady Toiacco- - for Sen redufr Dollar Buy your motor now fc summer and I sports.
