(UP) An Al- Michael Padgett, a bany Medical College professor gardner who likes 'a liverwurst is studying the properties of a drug used in treatment of gout in the same manner today that it was prescribed by the Arabs centuries ago. , Dr. Frank C. Ferguson, Jr.. Is studying the drug, colchicine, under a U. S. Public Health Service grant. Ferguson said the Arabs kept written records of the use and effects of colchicine. The remarkable thing is, he prescribed said, "that they about the same doses, provided identical directions for administration of the drug, and apparently knew as much as we do today about the nature and action of this material. Ferguson said the drug can of cells, prevent duplication which makes it useful to horticulturists.
