Bourne, Garland left, was honored here Monday evening in a special presentation ceremony when he was awarded a citation of merit by the American Red Cross. Making the presentation was Mary Owen Pearse, chairman of the Box Elder county chapter. Dr. J. G. Felt and Trooper Te Wayne Woodland of the State Highway Patrol, recommended Bourne for the honor. . . . Two Candidates File For Office Garland Man Honored With Merit Award An American Red Cross Certificate of Merit, the first to be presented through the Box Elder County chapter, was awarded to John A. Bourne, Garland, Monday evening in impressive rites at the Brigham City hall. Making the presentation was Mrs. Mary Pearse Owen, chairman of the local chapter. for Bourne was recommended the honor recently by Trooper TeWayne Woodland, Dr. J. G. Felt and Scott Lee, first aid chairman of the local chapter, first aid adfor his ministrations following an automobile accident north of Brigham City on May 14 in which Louis Nick Christensen was seriously injured. Bourne arrived at the accident scene and found Christensen bleeding profusely from the face and head .after three arteries had been severed and administered first aid by applying direct pressure compresses, firmly bound over the wounds to stop the bleeding until the ambulance arrived. He was one of a group to complete the first aid instructor course in Brigham City on March 12. In making the presentation, Mrs. Owen said, "Mr. Bourne, it is my pleasure to present to you the- - most distinguished citation awarded by the American National Red Cross, the certificate of merit. This certificate is the first such award to be given by and through this organization in Box Elder county. the Had you not mastered techniques of life saving procedure prescribed and practiced in every detail, it would not be be my pleasure as a representative of this association to present to you this award and you would not be the distinguished recipient of the citation which reads, In recognition of services rendered May 14, 1954, when you rendered first aid to Louis Nick Christensen, victim of an automobile accident. May who has filed for the office on the Democratic slate. May, Democratic party aspirant, was born in Harper ward. At present he is the operator of a trucking business in Brigham City. Before running his present business, May was engaged in farming and livestock raising in Harper ward. He also worked for the Box Elder county Mosquito Abatement district for two years.' May is the son of the late George May, a former county commissioner. of a member Hansen is the Mantua ward bishopric, as well as a member of the Box Elder County Fair board and a director of the South Box Elder County Farm Bureau. Owner and operator of a hundred acre dairy. farm, Hansen is a life long resident of Mantua. He. has been a hreeder of purebred Holstein cattle for the past 25 years. Pair Injured In Saturday An Ogden man Puts Out 3 Blazes and his son were injured, not seriously, and two cars were damaged to about $500 each, late Saturday night about three miles south of Brigham City when R. D. Dunford, Georgetown, Idaho, suddenly swung over into another traffic lane. Taken to an Ogden hospital in the Brigham City ambulance was Kenneth Andrus, 32, suffering a hip injury and his son, Kirk, with cuts and bruises on the face and head. Both were released after receiving medical attention. The annual old. folks outing for North and South Box Elder stakes will be held Tuesday, August 3 at the new Lagoon, it was announced this week by W. for the Vosco Call, joint committee. Present plans call for departure from Brigham City at 9:30 for the six to eight hundred people who are expected to attend the outing, each ward chairman arranging for trans portation and lunches for his own group. The two stakes will furnish ice cream and cold drinks, with Mr. and Mrs. John Musulas in charge of the serving. Lunch will be served at 12 noon, the committee announced, to be followed by a program being arranged by Mrs. Ella Reeder. Prizes to the oldest man and oldest woman, as well as others, will be presented. All residents of the two stakes who are 70 years of age or over are invited to the outing. Any one who has not been notified is requested to call their ward bishop and ward chairmen are urged to check on all old folks so that none will be missed, Members who Call announced. have badges are requested to bring them.
